Would you like to work within the Engineering Function of BAE Systems
Maritime Submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer -
Strategy and Performance at our site in Barrow.

The role will provide you with the opportunity to drive improvements in
engineering effectiveness and efficiency across the business, principally
through: the creation, iteration and maintenance of a strategy in order to
align organisational actions, plans and resources with business objectives and
development of plans to drive forward and execute that strategy; working with
multiple stakeholders across the business and wider corporation to help shape
strategic direction, and embed strategic management via objectives,
accountabilities and monitoring of progress.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Strategy and
Performance will involve:

· Facilitating highly
inclusive discussions across the Submarine business-unit and wider corporation,
to understand, shape and further the why and how of the engineering strategic
direction and working practices - developing the engineering strategy

· Identification of key
attributes of the required culture and how these can be implemented and reinforced
to bring about improved performance

· Researching,
recommending and building-in industry and academia best practice - through
nurtured partnerships

· Supporting the
development of the engineering core and domain capability planning process -
establishing an engineering capability model and performing capability maturity

· Establishing
engineering function analytics to generate insight (knowledge, understanding
and learning) to enable evidence-based decision making and performance

· Responding to,
participating in, and implementing business improvement initiatives

· Analysing engineering
resource demand profiles and forging direction to the supply solutions for
long-term sustainability, considering risks and adjacent business opportunities
and performing 'what if scenarios' - performing strategic workforce planning

· Partnering with
others on future bids

Line Management Responsibilities such as:

To provide leadership, support and coaching to all within your line of
responsibility. Manage the performance (including quarterly PDRs) for employees
within your line of responsibility. To encourage, by example, all matters relating
to good discipline and timekeeping, and to actively manage situations where
expected personal performance standards are not met for all within your line of

Your skills and qualifications:


STEM degree or equivalent experience within engineering discipline

Demonstrable experience of working within complex programmes, and a clear
understanding of the Product Life Cycle

Ability to engage with multiple specialisms to gain commitment to action
through consultation and consideration of impacts


Demonstrable experience of transformation programmes, capability maturity
and operating model design

Maritime - Submarines

Our Submarines business has been safely
