Our microbiology products are used to diagnose infectious disease and identify appropriate antibiotic treatment, confirm that food and beverage products are safe to eat and drink, and ensure that pharmaceutical products are sterile. Our broad range products include prepared and dehydrated culture media, rapid and direct specimen tests, and flu testing kits.If your throat is swabbed to check for strep throat, microbiology makes the ready-plated culture media on which the swab is tested. Microbiology solutions also include products used for testing urinary tract infection in patients, and for identifying bacteria such as E.coli and Salmonella in food & potentially harmful microorganisms in water.The Site Procurement Lead plans, organizes, and executes procurement of materials and services for the site, maintaining reliable and cost competitive sources of supply with an annual spend of over $50M.This is a critical central role as the decisions made the Site Procurement Lead will have a significant revenue impact for Basingstoke and other sites within the division.What will you do?Lead the overall material management for the Basingstoke site with a focus on fulfilment & inventory working closely with Planning and Production departments.Work closely with the other functional leads and the Site Lead in Basingstoke to ensure optimum material flow from the suppliersDevelops short term goals but also provides strategic input and direction for Procurement in Basingstoke aligned with the wider Procurement function across ThermoFisherImplement continuous improvement processes to improve material availability, stock levels and risk mitigation in a regulated environment at an economical cost.Execute and manage contracts with suppliers, in accordance with company guidelines, to optimize service, quality and costManage a team of 4 buyers, who executes the order management process according to forecast and stock level on raw material, 3rd party contractor and resale products across a broad range of categories such as packaging, plastic components, biologicals, chemicals and animal derived products.Develop and drive cost reduction/productivity programs consistent with the objectives set by the site leadershipResponsible for a sourcing savings tracking system to provide sourcing data for Monthly Business Reviews and Quarterly Business Reviews.Establishes common benchmarks and conducts regular reviews of purchasing processes to ensure best practices are drivenIn conjunction with our Vendors, develop, implement, and track programs for improving Vendor quality, delivery performance, and total cost of ownership to ensure that Vendor performance standards are met.Create business processes around lean sourcing, supplier evaluation, price inflation management and supplier risk management.Improve the functional excellence of the sourcing practices, particularly with respect to Lean Sourcing, to achieve supplier rationalization and reduction in transactionsRepresent the Sourcing Department on daily internal tier meetings, weekly site operation leadership team review, Sourcing Divisional reviews and Supplier meetingsProvide support to Global Category Management projectsManage purchasing involvement in the site's CAPA processIn conjunction with our Vendors, develop, implement, and track programs for improvement in Vendor quality, delivery performance, and total cost of ownership to ensure that Vendor performance standards are met.Applies e-sourcing technologies and Low Cost Region Sourcing as an integral part of the Category sourcing strategyEnsure to meet the Imports Global Trade Compliance on imports, such as managing Harmonized Tariff classifications, screening, valuation, dual-use, brokers and promoting awareness of, and compliance with, Trade laws and regulations as well as Thermo Fisher polices.Who we are looking for: experience, skills & abilitiesStrong leadership skills in problem solving, customer focus and change managementTrack record of leading and developing successful teamsProcurement experience with best practice procedure and process developmentGood knowledge of SAP applications and business processes in a manufacturing environmentStrong communication skills, written and verbal with excellent influencing skillsDemonstrated leadership skills to take initiative and exercise astute business judgement to drive performance improvementDegree level qualification or equivalent in a numerate disciplineCertified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or CIPS qualified is desirableExperience with Make vs Buy analysisDemonstrable application of Kanban and / or Lean processes to drive performance improvement.What's in it for you:Competitive packageExcellent benefits - Private healthcare, contributory pension scheme, life assurance + flexible additional benefits.25 days annual holiday plus UK bank holidaysTraining, career progression and opportunities within a world leader in serving science.About us:As the world leader in serving science, our work is more than something that fills our days.
