About the role

To support strategic change we are expanding our BI Data Development Team.

This role will be focused on delivering both project orientated major revisions and supporting business as usual change in relation to the underlying Kimball methodology data warehouse and other reporting systems. Development activity is focused on SQL Server stack, primarily in SSIS and T-SQL with the possible need to flex into Cognos Framework development.

Key accountabilities

·Support the Data Development Manager and Data Development Team with design and specification of ETL solutions

·Work closely with colleagues across Data & Analytics and Horizon Programme to ensure solutions will meet needs throughout the BI Platform stack

·Deliver performant and maintainable ETL solutions to meet specified requirements

·Develop solutions in line with Data Development Team standards and practice following development lifecycle

·Perform and/or arrange relevant testing of solutions in line with test strategy

·Provide on-demand operational support for the production BI environment

·Maintenance of appropriate solution and system documentation

·Identify and champion opportunities to improve our customer proposition and experience

·Provide input to Ecclesiastical UKGI Data Strategy

·Maintaining touch with industry developments and best practice though continuous professional development

Key performance indicators

·Deliver solutions in agreed timelines

·Adherence to team quality standards and processes

·Defects and rework rates within agreed parameters

·Positive engagement within Data Development, Data & Analytics and wider Business Solutions communities

·Promotion of BI within EIG

Measured by:

·360º feedback from internal and external stakeholders

·Ongoing internal review of solutions and documentation

·Monitoring of KPIs such as defect rates, cycle times, task estimation accuracy

·Delivery of other agreed objectives

Knowledge, skills and experience


·Strong working knowledge of Kimball methodology data warehousing

·History of delivery in SQL Server development stack using SQL Server 2014 or later, with a focus on SSIS and T-SQL

·Experienced in translating requirements to solution; ability to gathering relevant information, research and propose solutions

·Confidence with version control applications and processes

·Great team player with ability to deliver individually and collaboratively

·Comfortable managing own workload, taking accountability to drive delivery

·Experience of working in a pressured and complex environment

·Confident and influential communicator at all levels: good verbal, written, and presentation skills

·Customer focused and excellent understanding of the value of data and what it means to be data-driven

·Excellent working knowledge of data protection legislation and its practical application

·Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, or suitable alternative experience


·Previous Cognos Framework development

·Knowledge of developing SSAS or Cognos cubes

·Experience with Business Intelligence presentation tools (Cognos, Business Objects, Power BI etc)

·Experience of the insurance industry or similar
