There is a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to work within a very successful organisation in Derby.

Your new role
The successful candidate will assist the Financial Controller in protecting the interests of the Group through the application of appropriate accounting practices and adherence to current financial legislation.

Responsibilities:
  • To assist the Financial Controller in maintaining effective financial control of all activities. To ensure that all daily transactions are recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist with the monthly preparation of the Management Accounts and statistics
  • Month end Balance Sheet reconciliations and Profit & Loss analysis, together with period end journals.
  • Bank reconciliation to be kept up to date. All reconciling items to be verified.
  • Ensure all bank payments/receipts are regularly posted (mainly performed by other team members).
  • Continually review/reconcile amounts due.
  • Conduct a monthly physical stock-check of all vehicles at both sites and ensure no issues.
  • Continually review aged debtors/vehicle debtors and ensure the timely collection of outstanding monies.
  • Ensure the Nominal Ledger is closed off within timescale and assist in the completion of the monthly Group working papers.
  • Assist the Financial Controller with other ad-hoc duties as required.
  • To notify the Financial Controller of any problems and/or questionable practices identified.


What you'll need to succeed
  • Relevant experience; as it is essential that you can 'hit the ground running', though specific training will be given where necessary.
  • You should be highly organised, be able to work positively and constructively within a pressurised environment and have a high level of attention to detail.
  • You should be able to maintain effective working relationships and have good communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills for data entry are essential, and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required. In addition you should have a good working knowledge of general accounting software and systems.
  • Preferably have or be working towards AAT, or a similar qualification, or otherwise be able to demonstrate the necessary level of competence through work experience.
  • An understanding of accounting policies and procedures, especially the concept of double entry. To be able to rectify mispostings/issues within the management system.
  • An understanding of VAT policies and procedures.
