Salary - Up to £72,000 + full package

The client

An Enviromental / Remediation and Groundworks contractor have a requirement for a Commercial manager. This role is a predominently North West based role. The requirement is for the Contracting Division of this national contractor.

The division

The Contracting Services Division is one of the Group's largest Divisions and covers a variety of diverse 'contracting' services providing design, contracting and testing services to a range of external clients including engineers, developers, housebuilders, infrastructure, power supply, oil companies and local authorities. The current workload includes major infrastructure projects, housing and distribution warehousing developments and landfills. My client is currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager/Director to join the Contracting Services Divisional team. This will be a national role to support all the UK offices for the Divisional unit.

Commercial Manager/Director - National Role (North West based with National travel) - (Roughly one over night stay a week)

The successful candidate will be a supporting member of the leadership team for my client specifically liaising with professional staff with regard to all aspects of contract, commercial and project management. In particular, in the area of design and site implementation work on behalf of the teams within a particular business unit, in the effective development of pre-qualifications and tenders for large projects, in the management of major projects and in reviewing and agreeing the contractual terms agreed with the Client and administering any contracts on behalf of the Client. To provide technical and commercial leadership, guidance and support to the Divisional Directors and the Business Unit Managing Directors and to all commercial staff completing design and contract work in all work sectors.

More specifically you will be:

* Participating in the identification and tracking of major and strategic project opportunities across the group and input opportunities as appropriate.

* Providing advice and guidance on major project opportunities and participate in strategic business development initiatives.

* Maintaining high level business contacts within the environmental consultancy sector.

* Working with regional project teams to provide and deliver professional services with regard to the contractual and commercial aspects.

* Assisting with researching and cascading the latest contractual guidance, best practice and implement methods of working to improve the business' efficiency and accuracy.

* Identifying market trends and obtaining new opportunities and develop the strategy for bidding for work based upon a network of industry contacts.

Person Specification:

* Typically, a Chartered professional member of at least one recognised Institution and member of the Association of Project Management.

* Typically requires a second degree in a relevant discipline and hold appropriate post-graduate qualifications in contract management and/or contract law.

* Ideally an Accredited Project Manager for the NEC3 form of contract.

* Minimum of 10 years' experience, preferably in the Construction sector, and accustomed to leading a team of staff on large, complex projects.

* Typically, at least 15 years' post-graduate experience, including at least 5 years relevant experience at Management grade.

* Proficient using Microsoft Project and ideally Primavera programming software.

* A detailed understanding of the standard forms of contract, methods of measurement and common specifications used for the environmental consultancy sector.

* The ability to advise on the most technically and economically appropriate solution on a project by project basis.

* The ability to convince clients, regulators and other stakeholders as appropriate.

* The post holder will need to liaise with the other divisions where appropriate, primarily anticipated as the Geosciences, Environmental and Planning, and Agricultural and Land Management Division and specialist colleagues in the International Division, pertaining to contract terms, fees, programme, strategies and implementation

* Have a respected area of expertise, be a confident leader and reliable contributor to any team.

* Be decisive, be a good negotiator and always act with integrity.
