Join us as the Engineering Team Manager for Structures and bring your specialist knowledge and experience to head up one of our teams of Engineers and inspectors in our North West Region. As Team Manager, you will be the responsible for managing all Highways England's bridges and other structures on the Strategic Road Network in the North West. As well as managing a team of engineers and inspectors, your role will include identifying and prioritising asset needs, identifying, managing and reporting risks, and developing renewal schemes to ensure the structures remain in a safe and serviceable condition to keep the country connected. You will be based in our Warrington office.

You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employment

What you'll be leading on
  • Providing leadership, direction and line management for a team of specialist engineers and inspectors, ensuring timely setting of objectives, performance management reviews and development of appropriate succession and development plans.
  • Managing the utilisation and allocation of team resources to ensure appropriate resourcing levels for all the activities in scope, including providing technical support for Project Managers in the scheme design and delivery process.
  • Asset ownership for highway structures, ensuring asset specific management plans and asset management decisions adhere to defined policies and standards, provide value for money and maximise contribution to the delivery of business objectives.
  • Providing technical expertise in the identification and prioritisation of asset specific needs, renewal option evaluation and selection, and development of early solutions.
  • Collaborating with engineering colleagues, Project Managers, Service Delivery Managers and other Asset Engineering Team Managers to ensure that regional forward programmes, capital investment and maintenance plans reflect asset needs and considerations, are developed in a way that is compliant with the relevant technical policies and standards, and take into account new techniques, materials, buildability, and costs.
  • Authorising technical briefs, reports, specifications, drawings and supporting information
  • Managing the implementation and adoption of relevant best practice asset management processes, including ensuring the maintenance of accurate and up to date asset information and databases.
  • Managing and reporting of structures budgets including monthly review of costs and forecasts
  • Maintaining oversight of reactive management and incidents affecting the condition of the structures.
  • Setting the direction and high level requirements for structure inspection plans and maintenance regimes to reflect specific local needs and risks, whilst maintaining overall compliance with defined standards.

To be successful
  • You will have relevant technical qualifications and a Chartered Member of the ICE, IStructE, or equivalent
  • Extensive experience of managing a technical team
  • Thorough understanding of relevant technical standards, asset policies and strategies
  • Experience of developing asset management plans
  • Thorough knowledge of asset condition assessment techniques
  • Project planning and delivery skills
  • A full and clean UK driving licence
