Purpose of the role:WEA has an exciting opportunity for an experienced community based learning practitioner to co-ordinate ESOL and other community based provision in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire, ensuring effective support to part-time tutors and learners.
Key areas of responsibility:The Workers' Educational Association is a charity and the UK's largest voluntary sector provider of adult education. We have a strong sense of social purpose, dedicated to bringing great teaching into the heart of local communities. All our educational provision is developed with this in mind and our courses can be set up almost anywhere - for example in clubs, community centres, village halls, schools or where people work.
Our ESOL provision NE Scotland aims to support language learning for migrant workers and refugees through classes, family learning and language cafs in line with the Social Practice model. It is delivered through a partnership approach. Our on-going programme of other types of community based courses aims to provide confidence-building, 'first step' courses for those seeking to return to learn, or to help tackle social isolation in older people. The post-holder will promote the Association through creation and maintenance of relevant networks and partnerships. Courses are taught by a team of part time tutors, usually working remotely and flexibly. This requires close and co-operative working relationships with tutors, staff, partners and volunteers for the benefit of current and future learners.
