Legal & Compliance Operations Manager Needed in Fareham

REED Legal are pleased to be working with a renowned specialist recruitment agency operating in more than 100 countries across the world.

Our client is looking for a permanent, full time Legal & Compliance Operations Manager.

Location: Fareham, Hampshire (with opportunity for some home-working)

Job Purpose: Responsible for the Legal & Compliance department's governance, policies, procedures, training and controls.

Role Description: To ensure the Legal & Compliance department operates efficiently and effectively. Reporting to the General Counsel, responsibility includes managing and implementing legal change and process with a focus on overseeing regulatory/compliance/risk matters within the business.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Creation and maintenance of processes and practices to improve the day to day efficiency and effectiveness of the Legal & Compliance department, including the facilitation of change processes to drive efficiency and embed culture of continuous improvement;
  • Identify and implement department tools to streamline new or existing practices, as well as manage design, roll-out and training for new systems;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage Legal & Compliance involvement in operational projects across the business;
  • Working with the department heads, liaise with the business to identify and assist the department to deliver business operational needs, and assist the Legal & Compliance management team in planning, prioritising and allocating resources appropriately;
  • Advise on the department's budget planning, including partnering with the Finance team to monitor budget constraints and actual performance, identify spending trends, potential cost savings and efficiency opportunities, with particular focus on managing external legal and professional fees;
  • Manage and report on key operational and substantive metrics for the Legal & Compliance department to drive better decision-making and efficiency improvements;
  • Implement the HighQ system to include management of matter management, contracts management, compliance management and internal resource management;

Key knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent knowledge or skill);
  • Formal operations/project management qualification desirable (e.g. Agile, Lean Six Sigma, PRINCE2 or equivalent);
  • Prior experience of managing legal operations and understanding of the legal process and typical work product desirable;
  • Strong stakeholder management, influencing and relationship building skills including experience in building strong relationships of trust with senior stakeholders and/or clients;
  • Prior experience in developing and implementing operational processes and procedures;
  • Proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional groups to set objectives and drive progress to produce meaningful results;
  • Prior experiencing in implementation of workflow management systems desirable;

  • Ability to balance and prioritise multiple time-sensitive tasks, and manage competing priorities effectively and independently, including driving results and delivering to deadlines and budgets;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to think strategically whilst managing the details, and to make clear recommendations;
