Position Summary

The accounting manager is responsible for all areas relating to managing and leading a team controlling the US GAAP accounting activities of multiple legal entities within the EMEA region.This role requires strong team leadership, technical accounting proficiency and requires the adherence to tight deadlines whilst completing accounting activities including, but not limited to, general ledger preparation, year-end reporting and statutory submissions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead the accounting team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Lead the accounting team in the awareness, and compliance with all relevant group policies and processes, as well as assigned local compliance activities, such as VAT and withholding tax reporting
  • Manage the accounting processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting to all stakeholders
  • To ensure the integrity of the financial statements of entities within the sub region, through detailed monthly review of reconciliations schedules and individual transactions as appropriate.This includes review of trial balance items for which you may not be directly responsible
  • Support the development of all team members to achieve a strong and effective unit which is capable of adapting to business and legislative changes
  • Provide guidance to GL accountants when issues arise with tasks they are undertaking: including system issues or the technical understanding of the accounting treatment required.
  • Represent the team in the wider management group, supporting the VP Finance with strategic goals and objectives, proposing improvements on a proactive basis, through continuous review of existing processes
  • Act as the primary contact for the audit activities for the sub region, covering Internal, Group and Statutory audits, developing a strong relationship with the audit partners
  • Provide appropriate scrutiny on transaction or process sign-off, paying attention to Corporate and Statutory requirements that may apply
  • Assist statutory accountant/auditors in completing annual filings including responsibility for any ledger queries.
  • Develop a strong relationship with external partners to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of locally held books of record and financial statements
  • Support Tax group with all initiatives impacting on your assigned jurisdictions
  • Work with other finance/non-finance personnel to ensure accuracy of financial records for all areas of responsibility, ensuring you lead by example for the rest of the team and the wider finance group.
  • Take the lead on designated projects, as well as highlighting areas of weakness or exposures within existing processes.
  • Ensure business changes arising from organic and acquisition driven growth are successfully implemented, reinforcing the strong control environment within the SSC




Key Requirements/Experience
  • Qualified accountant (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience of working in an accounting role, ideally financial accounting is an essential requirement of this role
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
  • European languages would be an advantage but are not essential.
  • High level of excel to support process improvements
  • The ability to work under pressure ensuring deadlines are met across the team
  • Being adaptable to change, sometimes at short notice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent Interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to lead a team to success
  • Possess proactive and flexible attitude
  • The ability and willingness to work additional hours as required
  • Proven ability to manage effective relationships within the accounting team through to senior members of the management team
