DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) - a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal. DEBRA was founded in 1978 by Phyllis Hilton whose daughter Debra had EB - the charity was the world's first EB patient support group.

Debra has a vision of a world where no one suffers from the painful genetic skin blistering condition, EB. To enable people living with EB to improve their quality of life, by providing support to access services and information around issues including, but not limited to benefits, finance, housing, education, employment and leisure. To work with healthcare professionals, statutory organisations and other agencies to enable the best possible support and care for people living with EB.

Description

To provide a community support and advocacy service to people whose lives are affected by the genetic skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). To enable people living with EB to improve their quality of life, by providing support to access services and information around issues including, but not limited to benefits, finance, housing, education, employment and leisure. To work with healthcare professionals, statutory organisations and other agencies to enable the best possible support and care for people living with EB.

To work under the direction and support of the national community support manager to lead and develop the service and team.

To manage a caseload in the South of England.

To manage the EB community support team in the Midlands, North and Scotland including line management.

Profile

To be able to continue with the devlelopment of DEBRA EB community support, best practice guidlemines, protocols, policies and procedures.

Lead on community support projects as agreed with the National Community Support Manager.
Contribute to the development of DEBRA strategic planning of services and implementation of policies and procedures with the aim of improving the lives of the EB community.
Assess need, access and manage DEBRA support grants, including the annual allocated budget for the region, in accordance with the DEBRA grants policy.
Audit records, monitor practice and review service: write related reports when required.
Assist in the recruitment, induction and professional development of community support team staff.
Offer regular one-to-one supervision of your team including appraisal and reviews in line with agreed key performance indicators (KPIs).35 hours per week with travel to events which may require overnight stays six times a year(2 months prior notice to this)

The ability to travel throughout the Midlands and Occasional North of Scotland, attend the Birmingham office once a week and the Bracknell office twice a week.
