Rthirteen are currently seeking a Legal Assistant to join a highly reputable law firm based in Central Norwich. This role has become available due to growth of the team and with the aim to provide support to lawyers through the undertaking of various client due diligence checks. Your tasks will include; conduct conflict checking, drafting the letter of engagement, scoping and estimating, 'filleting' files, scanning, archiving and dealing with client balances where required.
This is a brilliant opportunity for someone with previous professional service experience and a keen eye for detail to join an exciting, growing team, where you can utilise your analytical skills to resolve issues and provide support to the other teams.
Your duties will include:
* Conducting due diligence checks and tasks as required.
* Verify the identities of individual clients, either by conducting online identity checks, or checking identity documents provided by the client.
* Conducting conflict and credit checks on clients, escalating where necessary.
* Identifying company ownership and beneficial ownership structures.
* Liaising with other teams to ensure compliance with customer due diligence on a risk sensitive basis.
* Conducting all relevant client balance and interest checks on matter closing, then closing the matter and/or client file in accordance with the firm's policies and procedures.
* Conducting any other relevant checks as required.
* Researching additional information when initial searches do not provide the required information.
* Conducting any required Controls of the teams' processes and recording the results of these.
* Creating client letters of engagements with relevant scoping and estimating where appropriate and in accordance with instruction.
* Liaising with and providing guidance to lawyers and secretaries on file opening process to include and check issues as appropriate, subject to supervision.
You will have/be:
* Proven experience working in a legal firm or professional service environment would be advantageous.
* A minimum of 6 GCSEs or equivalent including at least C grade in English and Mathematics.
* Educated to A Level standard of equivalent.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with staff of all levels.
* Good organisational skills, with a clear attention to detail.
* An understanding of conflict checks and credit checks.
* Strong IT Skills including a good knowledge of MS Office.
* Good analytical skills with an eagerness to investigate issues and see problems through to their conclusion.
* A proactive approach to work and an enthusiasm to develop new skills.
This is a full time, 12-month FTC position, working Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. Working from modern, Norwich city centre based offices. Offered salary of £18,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package.
