Job Description

* Key management role in the group finance team (aka Central finance)

* Responsible for Financial accounting and control, compliance and process improvement

* Critical support for: audit and statutory tax and VAT/GST returns


GPHL group comprises 13 trading entities operating in UK, India, Australia, Ireland, Canada and USA. Financial accounting and controls are carried out mainly in the UK and in India. The group finance function is based in Alderley Edge. GPHL group is managed from the UK and owned by NEC Corporation (plc) since Jan 2018. This is a newly created role to support the Group Financial Controller with meeting reporting and tax/VAT compliance standards required by IFRS and a large international group.

Financial accounting and control

* Implement group wide balance sheet review process

* Support implementation of new software to collate/assess balance sheet controls for the group

* Support IFRS adoption and compliance in all regions/entities (NEC accounting policies)

* Reduce risk of error on group wide balance sheet reconciliations

* Review balance sheet reconciliations and assess quality

* Review and approve material journal requests

* Provide feedback to management and financial accountants across the wider finance team responsible for balance sheet controls

* Consideration of changes to accounting standards and impact on financial statements

* Point of contact for financial accounting and reporting advice within the wider finance team

* Support JSOX compliance across GPHL group

Process Improvement

* Process improvement for balance sheet reconciliations across the group

* Maximize SAP functionality to increase robustness of balance sheet reconciliations

* Develop and improve documentation of accounting procedures across the business

* Assist with AP process improvements

* Assist with inter-company process improvements

Tax Compliance

* Support process improvement in production of VAT/GST returns

* Implement software for compliance with MTD legislation in UK (making tax digital)

* Maintain the VAT section of the group tax risk register

* Review and approve group VAT returns (UK, Australia, NZ, Ireland)

* Liaise with UK and overseas advisors on VAT and GST matters

* Support preparation of UK and Ireland CT computations

* Support preparation of UK PSA return

Key relationships

* Head of Finance Systems, Reporting and Control (Simon) - system implementation

* Financial Controllers in Finance Operations (India, Hemel and Cambridge) - system implementation

* GL team in Mumbai - process improvement

* Central finance - audit, JSOX, VAT return, CT return

* Mindtree - grow SAP knowledge - AP, VAT, interco


- Qualified Accountant with 1-2 years PQE (post qualification experience)

- Excellent knowledge of IFRS

- Excellent communication skills

- Ability to multi-task

- Ability to work as part of a multi-site and international teamĀ·

- Travel to India (eg quarterly) and across UK required (eg 1 x monthly)


- Performed complex accounting in industry (eg IFRS16 Leases, IAS12 Taxes, IAS19 Employee benefits)

- Produced VAT returns

- Experience of working in a large corporate group

- SAP experience preferred
