We are looking to appoint two Early Learning Training & Development Officers to join our central improvement team to assist in driving forward the quality dimension of early learning and childcare in Falkirk.

As Early Learning Training & Development Officer you will join existing teams in Council offices in central Falkirk and will work closely with ELC practitioners, senior practitioners and leadership.

You will contribute to the strategic work of the service by providing operational support and guidance to progress the following agreed workstreams:

Developmentally appropriate early learning and teaching & assessment in ELC.

Strategies to preventing / close the poverty-related attainment gap.

High quality career-long professional learning and support to enhance the delivery of ELC expansion to 1140 hours.

Support for sector-leading pedagogical leadership.

You will have core responsibilities for: quality assurance, organisation and delivery of professional learning, facilitation of professional networks with Falkirk and beyond. In addition, each post will carry with it specific remits relating to local and national priorities including: Family Learning; Partnerships; Outdoor Play & Learning.

Collaboration and partnership will be a key feature in taking forward these priorities. You will work closely with: in-service practitioners, centrally-based colleagues, other Council services and professionals out with the Council.

You will work closely with the Falkirk's team of Excellence & Equity Leads (Early Years Pedagogues) to carry out small tests of change leading to spread and scale of improvements.

You will play a key role in improving how data is used for improvement and move forward at pace strategies that are shown to improve outcomes for young children.

Creativity and innovation is a key feature of this post and as such you will inspire, motivate, support and challenge colleagues in the development of their own practice.

We are looking for Early Learning Training and Improvement Officers with:

in-depth pedagogical knowledge of learning and teaching in nursery and the early stages of primary.

proven ability in leading change and improvement across the Early Level of the curriculum.

proven ability in the use of data to inform improvement and leadership of change.

experience of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to bring about improvement.

experience of planning and delivering career-long professional learning sessions to colleagues.

experience of project leadership.

evidence of commitment to own career-long professional learning with an emphasis on early learning pedagogy.


You are required to hold a BA Childhood Practice (or equivalent)

You will be working currently in a senior leadership role in ELC or primary education.

You will have proven ability to lead and manage change and improvement.

This post is full-year and full time. It is a permanent post.

This post is suitable for flexible working.

Secondments opportunities will be considered.
