KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will work as part of a focused scrum team of developers, analysts and testers, developing new features, fixing bugs, supporting client deliveries and improving the CALMS technical platform.

They use Java with Spring and Hibernate on the server side, with Angular and TypeScript on the client side; typically, you will work front to back and be exposed to Java, the browser and the database, as well as their development and build toolchain.

They have a strong focus on quality and stability and work by the mantra of "leave the code better than you find that we found it, without compromising the integrity"; this can sometimes be a challenge but the team are supported with code reviews and design discussions as well as collaborative working on long-running projects. The business uses strong testing (unit, integration and end-to-end) and test-driven development practises to both refactor and improve the code base without impacting current production features, this is supported by using code quality tools like Sonar to provide metrics coupled with nightly continuous deployment where Selenium and JBehave tests are run.

They have daily SCRUMS to allow the team to synchronise tasks for the next 24 hours. As well as offering the opportunity to attend lunch and learn sessions and additional training enhancements throughout the year. Their Graduates and intermediate developers work closely with their senior developers to enhance their skills and develop within the business, having the opportunity to enhance their current skills and develop exciting new ones.

Developers at this company are empowered and encouraged to drive technical and architecture improvement of the product from the inside out.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Developers at this company work on developing and maintaining their flagship CALMS asset finance product.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • IT-focused Degree (Ideally Computer Science, IT or Mathematics Degree)
  • Good working experience of their core technologies;
  • Java
  • JavaScript (using a framework such as Dojo or Angular.js)
  • HTML & CSS
  • CSS
  • SQL, in the form of Oracle, SQL Server, MySql etc
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task on various activities whilst maintaining standards and guidelines
  • You should enjoy collaborating with a team but will have the ability to work independently

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week; Core Hours 10 am - 4 pm.
