Highways - Smart Motorway project
Up to £43'000 DOE, negotiable

Working with an established Tier 1 contractor, I am now recruiting for several Senior Engineers to work on Highways England's flagship Smart Motorways Programme. The project will involve upgrading pavements, barriers and drainage as well as installation of gantries, emergency refuge areas and technical equipment to the M56 between junctions 6 and 8, to the west of Manchester Airport.

Role Overview:

The Highways division is one of the business units that make up the contractors' entity. It delivers projects for national and local clients. This team has expanded in recent times and includes operations for Highways England, Local Authorities and Highways Maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engineers will actively lead this initiative and will be responsible for monitoring the quality of the works in conjunction with the Test and Inspection Plan, maintaining as built records.
  • Assist the Site Manager in the initial site set-up, actively installing Company systems and procedures.
  • Rigorously apply effective planning techniques, methods analysis and controls to ensure the most effective and continuous use of resources.
  • Assist the Site Manager and Quantity Surveying Department by compiling data to record resources utilised on each activity.
  • Participate in the implementation of strict financial controls on the payment of subcontractors, suppliers and operatives.
  • Co-ordinate site setting out to satisfy contract programme requirements, delegating or carrying out setting out as necessary.
  • Ensure standard Company procedures are adopted in carrying out setting out operations, and that effective methods of communication are used in transmitting information to operatives and subcontractors.
  • Liaise and co-ordinate with all Head Office Departments to improve all levels of communication so as to benefit and develop overall Company objectives.
  • Actively support the Site Manager in maintaining and enforcing safety standards as required by statute and in accordance with the Company's Safety Policies.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining links with clients, determine customer satisfaction levels and develop contact points for post contract future work winning.
  • Actively participate in generating a wider client base and produce feedback data to the Regional Manager.
  • General levels of conduct and minimum performance standards are described in the Conditions of Service booklets.
  • It is incumbent upon all members of staff to maintain standards of discipline that accord with the Conditions of Service.

Experience and Qualifications:
  • CSCS
  • Degree/Qualification preferred or min HND in civils
  • Health & Safety Qualification such as SMSTS
  • Experience in highway and drainage works
  • Concrete piling experience
