JOB TITLE: Senior Buyer / Procurement Manager

REPORTING TO: Group Procurement Manager

LOCATION: Newark on Trent

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

PURPOSE:

The Senior Buyer will form an integral part of the Purchasing function with strategic and operational objectives. With a strong, solid background in Purchasing and Procurement functions, the incumbent will be expected to take a hands on, proactive approach, liaising with design to ensure specific product specifications and drawings are obtained in line with supplier lead times and programme schedules.

SCOPE:

The role will have clear project focus, supporting the purchasing function at a strategic and operational level, whilst also supporting the stores function. Prioritising design output and liaising with programme managers to ensure project timescales are preserved s a high priority whilst working within the procurement team at a detailed level within a commodity based structure.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES INCLUDE:

* Managing and controlling suppliers and the delivery of materials to satisfy production programmes.

* Detailed scheduling (and quantifying) of materials from internal design drawings.

* Ensure materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered in line with the production programme.

* Support the establishment of strategic relationships with key suppliers and work to realise value engineering and CI opportunities.

* Foster close working relationships with associated departments e.g. Design, Production, etc.

* Expedite orders and maintain ERP data, static and dynamic.

* Pursue a policy of continuous improvement and strive to drive down external spend.

PRODUCTION EFFICIENCIES:

* Material Costs - stringent cost controls are required to ensure KPI targets are met.

* Ensuring compliance to internal governance processes.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENTS:

Full involvement, specifically with the technical department, on the evaluation of new and existing materials.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

* CIPS

* Minimum 5 years previous experience in a Purchasing role.

* Experienced in the procurement of building and construction related materials.

* Competent level in use of Microsoft Office Excel, Word and use of a proprietary ERP system such as SAP, JD Edwards, IFS or similar.

* Proven track record of controlling and reducing external spend.

* Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team at times on a matrix management basis.

* Fully conversant with modern procurement and purchasing techniques.

* Attending internal meetings and presenting Purchasing performance achievements both internally and externally at clients and suppliers.

* Management and coordination of purchasing activities with relation to cost, delivery and quality performance.

* Coordinating with quality personnel, resolutions to supplier quality concerns, ensuring timely and effective containment and resolution.

* Managing / issuing supplier performance results.
