THE COMPANY:

Brewster Partners are working with a large manufacturing business in the steel sector as they look to recruit a Manufacturing and Engineering Manager.

The business are looking for an experienced Manager with strong metals industry operational knowledge to join their exciting and growing team.

As Manufacturing and Engineering Manager you will be expected to lead on operational performance, cost control, capital investment, maintenance, continuous improvement and health, safety and environmental standards.

The scope of the role encompasses raw materials procurement and receipt through to product delivery.

THE JOB:

Report into the General Manager and deputising when required, the role will include:
  • Manage all aspects of operations in order to meet agreed business objectives in accordance with the manufacturing plan
  • Plan daily, weekly and period operations including procurement and receipt of raw materials, consumables and dispatch of final product
  • Manage and control maintenance strategy including routine, down-day, stop period and capital activities for area of control
  • Ensure safety and environmental standards and targets are met and maintained within defined plant, business, company procedures and legislative requirements
  • Coordinate shift resource and activities to ensure plant objectives and targets are achieved
  • Manage contractors and contracted services in accordance with business objectives
  • Agree and manage trial programmes to achieve trial objectives and minimise operational and business risk
  • Identify areas for operational and financial improvements and facilitate/enable their introduction and development
  • Identify long-term strategies to improve business opportunities in product, process and customer support activities
  • Ensure the smooth and effective introduction of new equipment, capital spend and process improvement technologies
  • Ensure both internal & external service providers achieve business objectives within budget and service level agreement
  • Manage allocated financial budgets and identify longer-term capital requirements to support improvement plans
  • Ensure that designated responsibilities under the COMAH regulations are implemented and applied

THE PERSON:

The company are looking for someone with:
  • A comprehensive understanding of vacuum technology, induction furnaces, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and mechanical engineering
  • Experience of working with electrical equipment, understand electrical drawings, install equipment to a professional standard and fault find and repair a range of electrical equipment would be an advantage
  • A degree or equivalent HND or HNC in a process, technical or engineering discipline
  • Management experience with the necessary leadership skills to motivate a diverse workforce and contracted services
  • A comprehensive understanding of Health and Safety legislation and the application in a high value manufacturing environment
