Our client is a Global Leading Business growing heavily through merger and acquisition with a global community of over 70,000 users and shared service IT function responsible for providing operational support to its business-critical infrastructure and deployment of new technology to its parent company and operating businesses.

As a result of increased demand and implementation of new technology, they are looking to recruit a Backup Administrator on an initial 12-months contract to be located from one of their IT Operation Centres. This position is to be responsible for the implementation and migration of backup infrastructure devices, NetBackup (NB) master servers, NB media servers, DataDomain (DD) Disk appliances, NetBackup Disk appliances, Tape Drive & Tape Library infrastructure.

The successful candidates will be responsible for all the activities related to the backup/restore process and will be required to perform troubleshooting of complex backup issues in an enterprise environment while providing clear communications and minimizing downtime. The position also requires an in-depth knowledge of server-side networking, including static routing and working with firewalled networks. The candidate must be proficient at scripting/programming for the purposes of creating and maintaining utility and automation tools to assist with any and all of the aforementioned tasks.

  • Deploy and decommission Netbackup Infrastructure devices.
  • On-board new storage devices into Data Centers and remote offices.
  • Perform Data Domain and Tape Library hardware firmware upgrades.
    • SAN and Networking knowledge/experience is a must
  • Perform Netbackup Installs & upgrades.
  • Assist with server migrations from a backup perspective
  • Assist with migrations from various types of backup software to NetBackup
  • Knowledge of backup encryption methods and tools, such as SKLM and VTE
  • Perform in-depth analysis and problem determination/resolution as it relates to day-to-day operations support
    • NetBackup Master, Media and client-server failures/management
    • NetBackup Disaster recovery and copy data management (SLPs, AIR, etc.)
    • IBM and Dell Tape Libraries, Tape drives and media management
    • Dell/EMC DataDomain management
    • Veritas Netbackup Appliance management
    • Cloud-based infrastructure in AWS and Azure
    • VMware backups on Nutanix hardware platform
  • Open, modify and close change control tickets related to the management and maintenance of the backup infrastructure assets globally.
  • Open, modify and close incident ticket related to backup infrastructure assets and help assist other technology platform groups when necessary related to incidents.
  • Perform migrations of backups between Netbackup policies and policy types.
    • Tape to disk
    • Standard to VMWare
  • Assist with migrations of servers backed up with another software to Netbackup.
  • Ensure that all Backup Infrastructure is monitored on a daily basis
  • Plan and execute new capacity additions for disk and tape systems, including standing up new systems from the ground up when required.
  • Create, modify and publish process & procedural documents that our team can leverage to support the Backup Infrastructure globally.
  • Implement standard configuration of the Backup Infrastructure to ensure consistency and supportability globally.
  • Process Flow and Log Analysis for NB Master, NB Media, NB Client, SAN zoning for tape drives, SAN Disk for NB catalog, Tape Silo's, Tape Drives, media pools, and firmware/software versions for these devices.

  • 3-6 year's hands-on experience in a technical backup infrastructure operational role supporting Netbackup Master Server, Media Server, Data Domain and IBM tape library infrastructure.
  • 1-3 years in Veritas, VMware & Hyper-V API Backups, and networking
  • Experience with one or more of the following types of backup software, Backup Exec, Veeam, Comvault and/or Avamar.
  • Technical knowledge in Netbackup, Data Domain, Tape Libraries, Unix, Windows & Networks.
  • Proficient in usage and administration of Windows and Linux based servers
  • Scripting skills in one or more scripting languages (Perl, python and PowerShell preferred)

This position can be located from any of our client's IT Operations Centre in Exeter, Bedford or Liverpool with the successful induvial being required to occasional travel to other sites for project-based requirement and will form part of an on-call rota.
