Apprentice IT Technician

Location: Sandbach High School

Job Type: 15-18 months Apprenticeship depending on requirement for functional skills

Salary: £153.75 per week / £7,995 per annum
  • National minimum wage for age payable after 12 months

Working Week:
  • Specific hours each day to be determined prior to appointment
  • 8am - 4pm

Interview Date: During the week of the w/c 1st July 2019

Possible Start Date: ASAP and ready for September start at school

  • Microsoft MTA Mobility & Devices Fundamentals
  • ITIL Foundation Certification

About the employer:

We are an education focus ICT service provider with over 20 years' experience working in the education, public and private sectors across the UK. We offer technical solutions, services and support across all these sectors, priding its self on high levels of service and technical ability. The company is located just outside of Macclesfield, Cheshire and supports schools across the country.

The Managed Services team operate in several schools across the UK, providing the day to day onsite support in these schools. The new apprentice will be joining this team and helping to deliver the high levels of customer service and support to one of our customers.

Sandbach High School

Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College is in the historic market town of Sandbach. It is an all girls school for 11- 16 years and has a mixed 16-18 Sixth Form college too. Vacancy Description:

The successful apprentice will increase the use of technology in schools by ensuring all hardware devices are well maintained and by ensuring staff, pupils and parents are supported in the use of technology to enhance learning.

This will involve carrying out the following duties:
  • Resolve problems associated with operating systems, networks, software, hardware, printers etc.
  • Service desk support- diagnosis of IT issues and supporting users remotely using remote connection tools.
  • Installation of new software and hardware
  • Maintain and fix other computing equipment
  • Assist in system upgrades and system maintenance
  • Liaise with third party suppliers such as Internet Service Providers and vendors
  • Support with technology asset management
  • In co-operation with teachers, they will also support the teaching of computing and the embedding of technology across the curriculum by preparing relevant materials and working alongside pupils, parents and teachers. This might also involve running extra-curricular activities such as coding clubs, mini-geek squad, Minecraft club and Lego club.

The apprentice will be based full time on-site responsible for the lower level IT issues that arise, supported by Primary Goal and our company working within the school.

Training to be provided:

As a Primary Goal apprentice, you will have access to:
  • Comprehensive digital pre-apprenticeship induction programme (including health and safety, safeguarding, PREVENT, technical and curriculum specifics)
  • Level 3 Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship standard (Networking and Architecture, Mobile and Operating Systems & Security, Cloud Services, Coding and Logic, Business Processes)
  • e-learning training materials
  • Specialist vendor and technical certificates
  • Access to practice labs to develop technical competency
  • 12 training days with Tablet Academy (specialist technology curriculum partner)
  • Curriculum knowledge base (lesson plans, resources etc)
  • Monthly assessor visits and competency checks
  • Support desk (technical, curriculum and pastoral)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills and Key Skills development
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities module
  • Functional Skills or GCSE English, maths and ICT if required

Being part of the Primary Goal community will give apprentices access to a range of other apprentices (with varying levels of experience) who can share good practice and offer suggestions and support. Our apprentices love being able to help each other!

Apprentices will have access to specialist industry partners for technology on hand to provide advice and support, access to resources and themed training days.

The Primary Goal portal is an online dashboard that will provide apprentices with a knowledge base to access information and technical guidance, as well as links to the helpdesk to speak to technicians who can give real-time advice and support.

Desired Qualifications:

GCSE Grade A-C in Maths, English and IT are highly desirable but applicants who are willing to work towards their Level 2 Functional Skills will also be considered.
