Software Development Manager

Location: Bristol

About the Software Development Manager:

The Software Development Manager is responsible for the planning, organising, monitoring and overseeing all aspects of application development for its PaaS platform. The role requires interfacing with business partners and the IT community.You will also responsible for educating and guiding others on architectural standards, principles, methodology and trends.

Responsibilities of the Software Development Manager:

Manage the Radiodetection software team and external software development vendors focused on PaaS based, multi-tenant solutions on cloud platforms.

•Develop, manage and execute the strategic advancement of applicable systems and programs.

•Provide leadership and expertise with respect to planning and establishing goals and policies to improve processes and procedures.

•Ensures compatibility with existing solutions, infrastructure, services, and strategic requirements.

•Contributes to the development of software and data delivery platforms with reusable components that can be orchestrated together into different methods for different business.

•Coordinates architecture implementation and modification activities.

•Works with the Technical and Commercial Product Managers and Scrum Master in order to prioritise and plan development work.

•Assists in post-implementation continuous-improvement efforts to enhance performance and provide increased functionality.

•Ensures the conceptual completeness of the technical solution.

•Works closely with project management to ensure alignment of plans with what is being delivered.

•Acts as the Chief System Architect and analyses the current architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements.

•Identifies and when necessary, proposes variances to the architecture to accommodate project needs.

•Performs ongoing architecture quality review activities.

•Responsible for the investigation and implementation of new technology and able to suggest new and innovative ways to apply it.

•Develops new and cost effective methods for better efficiency within the department.

•Lead or assist project meetings, gathering information relevant to department planning and resource management.

Requirements of the Software Development Manager:

•Extensive business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations.

•Strong advanced application development experience in a technical leadership role

•Strong knowledge of project management methodology.

•Experience managing external development vendors / partners in a software development environment.

•General management skills necessary for planning, organising and prioritising workloads.

•Adaptability and flexibility including ability to manage multiple priorities and work under deadlines.

•Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work well with people from many disciplines and with varying degrees of business and technical experience.

•Strong leadership skills; ability to provide direction, motivation and feedback to employees; achieve project objectives through the work of others.

•Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to describe complex, highly-technical issues using simple, clear and precise language.

•Bachelor's and/or advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Computer Engineering

•Demonstrated success defining and launching excellent commercial software products
