We are currently recruiting for an Accountant-Tanker Logistics. We are looking for an experienced individual to provide financial reporting, analysis, and decision-making support to the Finance Manager - Tanker Logistics, and to business partner the Tanker Logistics Area Managers. Please note that the role may be located at either Severnside or Market Drayton and is for a fixed term of 14 months.

Your challenge
  • Detailed understanding of the underlying monthly performance of all aspects of Tanker Logistics, including milk collection, reloads, trunking, swaps and joint collections.
  • Responsible for analysis and reporting of variances to forecast.
  • Preparation of weekly forecasting for Tanker Logistics including investigating and explaining any major variances to forecast
  • Preparation of budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Preparation of accruals and prepayments to ensure integrity of the management accounts.
  • Monthly cost bridge to forecast and monthly management reports.
  • Support delivery of ad hoc requests from the Tanker Logistics Financial Controller.
  • Ensure financial integrity for tanker logistics performance, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Detailed monitoring and variance analysis of all cost movements, in both PPL and absolute cost.
  • Management of relationship with accounts teams at 3rd party haulage companies and challenge cost submissions where appropriate.
  • Identify and implement appropriate checks to validate and ensure integrity of management accounts.
  • Balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure the correct charges are reflected in the management accounts by ensuring integrity of accruals, prepayments, recharges and balance sheet management.
  • Ensure variances to forecast are fully understood and explained.
  • Develop and implement appropriate KPI's.
  • Budget preparation and quarterly forecasts.
  • Weekly and monthly management reporting for Tanker Logistics, Trading costs, cream movements and interphase movements.
  • Identify and implement improvements in the weekly and month end processes to improve accuracy, integrity and efficiency of reporting.
  • Develop and implement processes for effective use of IT systems to improve efficiency of management accounting and reporting.
  • Work with third party suppliers and internal colleagues to identify and implement improvements in reporting.
  • Strategic development of systems to improve the accuracy and efficiency of reporting.
  • Develop cross-functional working relationships.
  • As a key stakeholder to effectively business partner the operational Area Managers. There are three Area Managers for the UK.
  • Work with the Trading team to improve the understanding of the financial implications of their activities.
  • Support the Tanker Logistics Financial Controller to ensure timely, accurate and efficient management reporting.
  • Cover for other members of the Milk Supply Financial Controlling team.
  • Support the Tanker Logistics Financial Controller in ad-hoc analysis and reporting.

Key skills & experience
  • Part or newly qualified CIMA/ACCA
  • Knowledge of journal postings, balance sheet reconciliations and month end accruals
  • Experience in a Logistics environment would be beneficial.
  • Experience in providing detailed variance analysis and budgetary controls.
  • Strong IT & Systems knowledge and experience, including Excel
  • Ability to visualize the whole picture and understand the importance of their role both within the department and also within the whole company
  • Ability to work on own initiative with a proactive and "can-do" attitude and comfortable working in a fast moving, high pressured environment with changing priorities
  • Needs to be both a team player and capable of working on their own
  • Excellent organizational skills with extreme attention to detail
  • Analytical and tenacious
  • Relationship building and communications skills. Ability to develop internal cross-functional relationships and to influence third party suppliers.
  • Ability to gather data from multiple sources and to summarise and present in a clear manner.
