As an English Academic Mentor, you will gain a full academic year of experience within a secondary school English department. This experience will give you a solid foundation to build upon before starting your PGCE or School Direct Teacher Training in September 2020.

English Academic Mentor Specification

• 2:1 or First-Class Honours degree within English Language, English Literature or Linguistics
• Considering qualifying as an English Teacher in Suffolk but seeking additional school experience first
• Able to commence the role in September 2019 and able to commit to a full academic year
• Charismatic and engaging English Graduate who can inspire the minds of others
• Previous experience tutoring/mentoring/coaching the 11-16 age range is desirable
• The ability to deliver engaging, challenging and creative English activities

English Academic Mentor Role

• Supporting the class teacher, leading small groups & mentoring pupils on a 1:1 basis
• Observe exemplary practice from some outstanding practitioners and help to raise pupil's attainment
• Plan and deliver small group English intervention sessions to accelerate learning
• Fantastic English Academic Mentor experience for those looking to train as an English teacher
