ACCOUNTS SENIOR's TASKS /RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. DAILY/WEEKLY
  1. Prepare/Review accounts from client's records for companies, partnerships and sole traders
  2. Prepare/Review quarterly VAT returns, mainly for limited companies - this could be standard VAT accounting or Flat Rate Scheme. This involves working with spreadsheets, Sage or Cloud based software, in particular Xero
  3. Prepare/Review business tax computations to identify the taxable business profits, including correctly claiming tax relief on fixed assets
  4. Input data into the Personal Tax Module using a checklist of items to watch for. Then mark sections of the Tax Return programme as complete
  5. Draft/Review covering letters enclosing accounts and business tax computations to clients
  6. Draft/Review supporting paperwork to go with a set of accounts - e.g. Minutes of meetings of directors/Letter of representation/Invoice/Notes & Recommendations/Fixed Price Agreements
  7. Tax planning regarding extraction of funds from a company in the most tax efficient manner. In particular, working out the optimum amount of dividends that can be taken, often between couples without triggering higher rate tax.
  8. Speak to & email clients directly to resolve / deal with any queries.
  9. Prepare invoices using our software and renew fixed price agreements
  10. Keep a record of the profit /loss made by us on each assignment/client
  11. Update the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
  12. Review electronic in-tray and deal with tasks/post-in as necessary
  13. Deal with emails as required

  1. Attend weekly full team meetings and contribute ideas and opinions
  2. Prioritising workload
  3. Attend both technical and practice management training sessions (external & internal)

CHARACTERISTICS REQUIRED

- Previous relevant experience in a small or medium sized firm of accountants so experience of preparing/reviewing accounts from client's final records

- Excellent client facing & interpersonal skills

- Good attention to detail is essential

- Quick to learn & keen to progress to more complex tasks as knowledge and experience improve

- Will fit in well within the team

- Some experience of training and/or supervising/managing others

- Excellent leadership traits

- Ability to prioritise and work independently

- Ability to show good commercial sense

TECHNICAL SKILLS

- AAT level 3/4 or part-qualified ACA or ACCA

- Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Cloud Software)

- Working knowledge of IRIS and Xero essential
