Research and Enterprise Manager - £23.06ph plus Hol Pay - Central London

Start ASAP to the end of January 2020 initially

We are recruiting for an experienced Research and Enterprise Managerto join one of London's leading Universities. If you have previous experience gained within a similar role based in a Higher Education institute, we'd love to hear from you!

THE ROLE

Research
  • Work with the Dean, Vice Dean and others as appropriate to develop and implement the department
  • Establish a comprehensive understanding of the priorities, funding calls and methods of assessing applications of the various research funders
  • Establish a understanding and knowledge of the research areas, expertise and interests of academic staff within the department
  • Assist academic and research staff with applications for funding, particularly complex, cross-bids
  • Mentor and train professional services staff based in the department
  • Support the development of high quality programmes, consultancy, public and policy engagement
  • Approve project costings that adhere to the sponsor's terms and conditions and are compliant
  • Oversee the allocation or distribution of institutional strategic funding awards
  • Develop and implement demand management processes for the selection of departments and institutional bids
  • Liaise closely with other offices, including timely dissemination of funding opportunities and institutional processes
  • Work closely with the Vice-Dean on equalities, diversity and inclusion in research
  • Manage the funding schemes
  • Arrange consultancy and research agreements with independent advisors and subcontracts with private industry and other universities as required
  • Establish metrics and other measures and oversee the reporting to the management
  • Oversee or contribute to audits by external bodies

Innovation / Enterprise / Partnerships
  • Work with the Dean, Vice Dean and others as appropriate to develop, support and implement the Innovation and Enterprise Strategy
  • Provide co-ordination, management and support for the strategic development of innovation and enterprise activities within the department
  • Primary point of contact for academics to provide signposting, advice and advocacy
  • Gain and develop a comprehensive understanding of the priorities and working practices of existing and potential commercial and industrial partners
  • Liaise with innovation and enterprise to identify internal and external enterprise related funding opportunities
  • Develop business models and plans to optimise and generate new income streams
  • Develop engagement with prospective partners by proactively liaising with organisations
  • Provide advice on market opportunities and scenario planning where appropriate
  • Work with innovation and enterprise to facilitate meetings with external organisations

Other Duties
  • Attend Institution,Faculty and School meetings
  • Ensure that department activities are connected to relevant central activities and contribute to institution wide research and enterprise networks
  • Liaise with the Communications team
  • Possess an understanding of Financial Regulations and apply them to the department's activities
  • Provide basic cover for other administrative staff as required
  • Take on any other reasonable duties as requested by the Dean and Vice Deans

PERSON SPECIFICATION
  • Experience of planning and management of multi-stakeholder projects
  • Budget monitoring and management experience
  • Experience of developing and implementing systems and procedures
  • Operational background required
  • Pre-award research grant applications experience
  • Experience of assessing client needs & developing and maintaining excellent customer relationships
  • Experience of enterprise activities and developments in areas relevant
  • Experience of developing or synthesising funding applications
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication and numerical skills
  • Capable of understanding and analysing research proposals and business plans and being able to offer constructive comments and feedback
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, networking, negotiating skills
  • Excellent organisational skills, time management and project management skills
  • Ability to manage own workload under pressure managing competing priorities
