Lester Aldridge wishes to recruit a Director of Finance and Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration (COFA) to head the busy Finance team based in the Bournemouth office.


Director of Finance

You will provide leadership in financial management as a member of the Board to ensure the Finance team is effective and supports the business units of the firm to achieve their business plans, ensure the firm's resources and financial assets are safeguarded and to provide leadership in financial management providing input and support to the partnership's strategic planning and business performance.

You will be an effective leader to the Finance team. You will be able to converse comfortably with all levels of the business and its clients in order to understand requirements and articulate these in a clear strategy.


You will be responsible, alongside the Compliance Office for Legal Practice (COLP), for ensuring processes are in place to enable the firm, its managers and employees, and anyone who has any interest in the firm to comply with the SRA Handbook.


Director of Finance

• Member of the Board.

• Manage, supervise and support the Finance team.

• Build relationships with key people across the firm to ensure the Finance team is in tune with the business and provides high levels of service.

• Daily Management of the firm's cash flow, monitoring of projected cash flows to ensure performance targets are achieved and prevention of abnormal challenges.

• Deliver timely monthly management accounts, report on financial performance and review forecast of annual performance.

• Propose, agree and monitor financial performance measures across the business and provide support to Group and Team leaders to ensure performance targets are met.

• Work with the Managing Partner and the Board on strategic plans, development of the annual business plan and financial budgets.

• Highlighting any operational concerns and working with the finance team to bring forward solutions where needed.

• Oversee preparation of annual statutory accounts and other financial regulatory reporting for SAR and Companies House.

• Manage partner capital and current accounts and tax reserves.

• Manage relationships with external advisors including auditors, tax advisers and bankers.


• Establish and maintain processes to ensure that the firm, its employees and managers, comply with any obligations imposed under the SRA Accounts Rules.

• Keep a record of any failure to comply and make this record available to the SRA.

• Report any material failure (either taken on its own or as part of a pattern of failures) to the SRA as soon as reasonably practical.


• Professional accountancy qualification.

• High standard of IT skills including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, time recording systems, report writing tools (eg, Crystal/My Eureka) and other relevant legal software.

• Ability to act with tact and discretion and to maintain confidentiality is essential.

• Excellent time management, organisational and client service skills.

• Ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment. A flexible and adaptable team player who supports, promotes, develops and motivates others.

• Good working knowledge of professional services firms with capacity to develop a practical sense of law firm Finance requirements.
