GSL Education is currently seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Learning Support Assitant (LSA) to undertake a position at one of our established schools in Ashford, Kent. The post commences in September 2019 initially on a long-term basis with the possibility for permanency to the right candidate.

The ideal person will support students that have a Statement of Special Educational Needs or who have been identified as having a specific need to achieve their potential within a mainstream school by assisting them in accessing a broad and balanced curriculum.

The successful candidate will:
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team under the immediate direction of a class teacher to whom you are responsible.
  • Be able to help with some pupils in personal care.
  • Accompany teachers on educational journeys or on other off-site activities such as trips to places of interest, taking pupils to football, swimming or horse riding.
  • Support visiting therapists in carrying out specific programmes as directed by the class teacher.
  • Maintain and care for the resources used in the classroom. To help in the preparation and tidying of the classroom throughout the day.
  • Undertake the supervision of pupils in the temporary and short-term absence of teaching staff.
  • Be responsible directly to the Principal or Head of Education for the safety and well-being of pupils when left alone with them.

To be considered for the role of the Learning Support Assistant, you will:
  • Have CPD training or expertise in the field of Makaton.
  • Demonstrate experience working with students with Autism or SEN students.
  • Have an understanding of how to support the inclusion and progress of pupil with emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Have strong communication and behaviour management skills, as well as possessing the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Have the desire and motivation to meet the challenge of working with children with SEN.
