Role context and purpose:Management of and responsibility for planning, leading, organising and motivating a product development team to achieve the development and deployment of products aligned with BCS organisational objectives.
Ownership for the management of concurrent high visibility product development utilising agile methodology across multiple organisation divisions.Provide a consultative and collaborative approach to ensure the appropriate people, process and tools are in place whilst coaching teams to optimise efficiency and achieve goals within designated governance constraints.
Key Responsibilities:• To plan and manage product development, scheduling the required activity to enable on-time and within budget delivery whilst managing risk and issues in a collaborative manner;• Own and prepare progress reporting against plan applying a balance between agility and predictability to provide clarity against KPI's and an ability for relevant boards to make informed decisions;• To develop and lead a high-performing team that are both accountable and driven through the provision of appropriate guidance, empowerment, structure and the management of blockers;• Work with Product Managers to provide the support and governance required to meet the demand and manage expectations;• Blend project management principles and practices to fit mission-critical product development whilst defining and implementing a continuous improvement plan incorporating best practice both internally and externally;• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and third-party requirements in the product development process;Date issued: May 2019 Job no: 1172, Band 3 2• Apply appropriate assessment methodology that has impact and drives results;• Manage interdependency between internal and external departments to ensure timely development and delivery;• Support, coach, mentor and manage your team to ensure fair, consistent approach of workloads and development to produce a highly effective team;• Flexibility is required of all job holders to adjust responsibilities as required from time to time by their Line Manager/Divisional Director;• All staff will live BCS' values and support our purpose;• Continually looking at ways to make improvements to systems, processes and procedures;• The content and reporting lines detailed in this job description may be reviewed and changed from time to time to reflect organisational requirements.
Person specificationEducation and qualifications
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience and a track record of success to lead the development of product and ensure objectives, goals and commitments are met
  • Demonstrable experience in using appropriate tools and product development methodology
  • Demonstrable experience and track record of assessment methodology and applying best practice
  • Significant experience of working with IT professionals at a team and individual level
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully transitioning product development to business as usual
  • Significant experience of the training / software development life cycle as well as project management skills
  • Significant experience of motivating and leading interdependent teams

Special conditions:
  • Offsite visits to clients, partners and suppliers, other BCS offices may be required.
  • Some out-of-hours working including weekends may be required.
