Product Development Engineer

Location: Ashington, Cramlington, Morpeth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, North East, Gateshead, South Shields

Salary: 35-45k Circa

The Client: A major manufacturer within the Oil & Gas sector (also supplying other industries)

The Role:
Business Contribution:
  • Development of new products and features integrating mechanical and electronic elements.
  • Bridging electronic and mechanical engineering functions, providing systems integration capability.
  • Design of standard and non-standard product in compliance with the design procedures and standards provided.
  • Production of accurate drawings, reports and calculations.
  • Presentation of design details to internal and external customers.
  • The incumbent may be required to travel occasionally as part of their duties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean-sheet development of new products and features for the next generation of products, progressing through to medium volume manufacturing.
  • Participation in DFMEA and DVP&R.
  • Testing prototype products in-house testing facilities to produce robust and reliable products that represent a significant technological step forward.
  • Working within a highly-skilled multidisciplinary team.
  • Cost efficient and safe design and development of standard and non-standard products.
  • Carrying out and check design calculations to satisfy all aspects of design integrity in compliance with company design procedures and external design codes.
  • Compile the necessary technical documentation to fulfill contractual requirements, quality procedures, design codes and statutory directives.
  • To adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • The incumbent may be seconded to other engineering teams to meet business demands.

Required Capabilities
  • Degree in electronic engineering, mechatronics or similar subject.
  • Demonstrable experience working with bolted joints, pipelines, flanges or other large fabrications.
  • Demonstrable experience developing products which combine electronic and mechanical systems for volume production.
  • More than 5 years of work experience, post degree.
  • English language spoken and written
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, motion control
  • Electronic and mechanical systems integration.
  • Prototype development
  • Testing
  • Report writing
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic control systems and a thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Proficient in the use of electronic or mechanical 3d cad systems and experience working with cross-disciplinary engineering teams on complete product designs would be an advantage.
  • Thorough understanding of electro-mechanical systems, sensors, data acquisition and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficient with MS office applications, word, excel, outlook.
  • Strong analytical skills and a natural aptitude for fundamental engineering principles.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with clients and peers at all levels.
  • Ability to manage priorities and handle multiple tasks successfully.
  • Must be able to work in front of a personal computer for long periods of time
