Legal Assistant Role Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Paralegal/Legal Assistant who has at least a year's experience in Residential Conveyancing to be a competent assistant for a high-flying partner. You will be dealing with our clients, taking instructions to post-completion and being involved in all aspects of cases. You will have first-hand knowledge of all matters to be able to update and clarify issues for clients with the ability to think independently. You will also be given the opportunity to study for your professional qualifications paid for by the firm as an incentive to progress to a qualified fee earner. Our ideal candidate must be a proficient user of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, LEAP and Outlook. Additionally, you will be expected to carry out general administrative duties such as photocopying, scanning, faxing and filling. You will also be able to communicate and liaise effectively and efficiently with all the colleagues, departments, external parties and clients by phone, face to face and email.

Key Tasks
  • Requesting CHAPS and BACS payments.
  • Retrieve faxes, match to files and pass to the relevant departmental area.
  • Preparing the Mortgage Report for clients and to the lender, if needed.
  • Creating Invoices for legal work carried out and creating Completion Statements.
  • Post completion work, such as Notices of Charge, submitting SDLT's, sending Transfers/ Leases, paying Estate Agents Fees etc.
  • Setting cases up for completion - completion letters, receiving and sending appropriate documents.
  • Post exchange preparation - sending appropriate letters and documents.
  • Pre exchange preparation - ensuring all appropriate documents have been received and signed.
  • Obtaining Office Copy Entries and knowledge of Land Registry.
