Becoming an Assistant Accountant with Capita Gas Registration and Ancillary Services

Capita Gas Registration and Ancillary Services Ltd (CGRAAS) is the provider of the registration service for gas installation businesses in Great Britain and the Isle of Man. The Gas Safe Register is a service concession granted to Capita by the Health & Safety Executive GB and HSWI Isle of Man.

The role of the Assistant Accountant is to assist in the preparation and maintenance of complete and accurate financial records, concentrating on the reconciliation of receivables and responding to customer account queries. The role is varied and provides support across all finance activities for the CGRAAS scheme.

What you will do:

Ensure that accurate and up-to-date financial information is available on customer accounts
Respond to Finance support queries raised by customer or CSR's, ensuring that any issues are reported or resolved in a timely and efficient manner
Ensure credit account applications comply with business rules
Ensure that all invoicing and payments of receivables associated with the CGRAAS scheme are prompt, securely banked and reconciled
Monitor customer balances to ensure outstanding debts or overpayments are followed up and promptly recovered or refunded in line with CGRAAS procedures, liaising with Key Account Managers in resolution of issues where appropriate
Arrange for unpaid cheques to be logged and followed up with the customer
Assist in maintaining comprehensive internal control and security procedures to minimise the risk of loss or fraud
Respond to ad hoc requests for financial information
Routine cover for preparation of the Daily Flash Report (principle responsibility of Business Performance Analyst)
Provide cover and assistance to the Finance team ensuring all key financial tasks are completed
Adhere and update relevant process documents ensuring effective controls in place.
To escalate any problems to the Finance Director in the first instance
To adhere to the company Security Policy and escalate any breaches accordingly
To take responsibility for Health & Safety in the workplace, identifying and escalating any risks immediately
To abide by all Capita Security Policies and Procedures as advised. In addition, adherence to and acceptance of all Security Policies and Procedures appropriate to CGRAAS are to be accepted and followed at all times.
To abide by all Building and Visitor Access Procedures appropriate to all sites associated with CGRAAS.

Your experience will include:

Previous experience of working in a finance environment.
Good interpersonal skills & the ability to organise workload & meet targets.
Up to date knowledge of accounting standards & financial reporting requirements.
Knowledge of using computerised financial accounting & income management systems
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access & Outlook
Able to analyse, evaluate and present financial information to a high standard
Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation
Must be progressing towards an accounting qualification
Understanding of current Health and Safety, data protection legislation and quality policiesAbout Gas Safe Register
