Position Description

This purpose of this role is provide assurance of the design integrity and required evidence of adherence to design policies.

It is accountable for managing activities and processes which will provide assurance to the customer that the programme will achieve the desired design performance through design maturity gates.

The successful candidate will maintain the detailed processes required to assess the design goodness against the Ship Specification, whilst ensuring continuous improvement of the process throughout the contract phases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for evidencing project compliance to company Life Cycle management through the provision of evidence at planned events and delivers the data packs and certification en route to the certificate of design.

Essential

Experience of Managing, participating or facilitating dormal Design Reviews and assurance reviews from Design Completion to Customer Acceptance

Experience as a Design Review Assessor and/or the ability to perform Process Confirmations and support audit activities

Multi-level Stakeholder Engagement relating to the management of design and understanding of product change management and conformance management processes

Process Maintenance skills including improvement techniques and innovative thinking to improve consistency, efficiency and quality.

Desirable

Experience of working in a process development and working with multi disciplined engineering teams

Experiece as a Design Review Assessor or Auditor

Familiar with working on a military programme

Awareness of Certificate of Design or similar certification activities

Technical Knowledge

Ability to operate in a large, complex project at engineering management level in a multi-disciplinary, matrix management environment.

Knowledge and experience in use of ship design processes and systems to LCM guidelines

Extensive knowledge of Project Management techniques (EV, CPI, SPI, Risk etc.)

Technical knowledge and problem solving.

Business Expertise

5-10 years' experience of managing Systems Engineering effort or equivalent experience in a heavy industrial/marine environment

Man management experience

Previous experience on other projects of complexity (new build)

Experienced in Life Cycle Management reviews of bids and programmes.

Customer/end user focus/experience as well as customer procurement

Major Programme experience at senior level - concept, build and support

Qualifications

Degree qualified in Platform Engineering related discipline.

Experience to Chartered Engineer Standard + 10 years.

Substantial experience in Platform engineering roles at all levels.
