Salary: Up to £40K DOE

The role:

This is a new exciting challenging hands-on QA lead role working closely with both local and remote developers. A core aspect of the role will be the transformation of current manual test processes into an automated regression process with the assistance of the development teams and other members of the QA team.

  • Lead a team of QA testers working across two agile teams working on both cloud based and embedded products.
  • Work closely with the development team to define the architecture and toolset for a new automated test process, working towards Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment in the longer term.
  • Work closely with the Directors of both Product Development and Software Development to define the overarching test strategy and test environments required for both product lines.
  • Define manual and automated test strategy and test cases for functional, non-functional, stress, load, security and regression tests from user stories and requirements.
  • Identify and resolve gaps in testing strategy and capability.
  • Provide consultancy on best practice to development teams
  • Technical leadership of the test team across all products.
  • Identify and unblock issues impeding the running of automated tests
  • Report defects to development teams and working with them closely to further diagnose product issues
  • Ownership of test and quality assurance strategy.

Essential skills and attributes:
  • Exceptional experience and proven ability in the development of automated test frameworks from the ground up.
  • Ability to develop test cases across both web based technologies and embedded products.
  • Ability to lead from the front and have a hands on approach
  • Excellent planning and work prioritisation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including facilitation, negotiation, collaboration and influencing
  • Ability to maintain and develop constructive & effective working relationships across the business
  • Proven ability to use test equipment including oscilloscopes, DMM's, audio measurement equipment, spectrum analysers and radio/RF test sets.
  • Experience of working in an agile development environment
  • Strong desire for quality and high attention to detail with ability to gather information, understand and define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Able to take the point of view of the customer (internal or external)
  • Works closely with teams to improve outcomes
  • Organized and methodical, ability to keep track of technical work and steps taken while dealing with other numerous tasks

Desirable skills:
  • Experience with Cellular devices (GSM/LTE), GNSS, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC
  • Implementing automated unit test frameworks
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments within the embedded industry
  • Experience with LCD display, touch screen and camera interfaces
  • Working knowledge of ETSI & FCC compliance and type approval programs
  • Working knowledge of RF/Radio interface & antenna integration
  • Knowledge of lone worker industry
  • Experience as Scrum master
  • Experience implementing and working with automated test environments

Qualifications and Education Requirements

You will have a degree in either Electronic engineering or computer science and will have a keen personal interest in the embedded development.
