Senior Mechanical/Hydraulics Engineer
General Summary:
Working under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, provide technical guidance for less senior engineers and designers in the design of various types of equipment for use in the Subsea Industry. The position involves direct interaction with internal and external customers to prepare design packages for compliance with good engineering practice, company guidelines, customer requirements and related legislation and specifications for use in UK, Norway, U.S. and worldwide oilfields.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Carry out review of client specifications and drawings to understand and define their needs.
* In conjunction with project manager and engineering manager communicate with customers to resolve any areas not fully defined in the specification.
* Take ownership and produce project deliverables for execution for the engineering project from cradle to completion, delegate responsibilities to dedicated mechanical engineers and guide draughting staff in the preparation of general arrangement drawings, hydraulic schematics, and detail drawings used in the execution of the contract.
* Interface closely with manufacturing specialists throughout the project
* Produce 3D models, Drawings and FEA analysis in Solidworks.
* Produce Schematics in AutoCad 2D.
* Produce design calculations for hydraulic, pneumatic control systems.
* Produce design calculations for selection of main drive components, hydraulic components, and structural frame elements used in the construction of the company's products.
* Generate specification sheets for any new mechanical components required to fulfil the contract, for example gearboxes, drive motors, pumps, valves etc.
* Generate test procedures and O&M manuals required for the project.
* Carry out technical review and sign off for technical documentation generated within the engineering department.
* Carry out risk assessments & Design review to Atex/IECEx/MD and specific operational modes.
* Liaise with DNV, Lloyds etc to ensure approval of design documentation.
* Manage several moderately complex projects at one time.
* Handle technical changes and technical problems related to the assigned projects.
* Act as technical expert for the company for both internal and external customers.
* Provide technical guidance for less senior members of the design team.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
3D Designers / mechanical engineers.
Experience:
* Worked on Subsea equipment.
* Designed aforementioned equipment and led engineering teams in the execution of design and build
* Must be able to work with customers to define and document project requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status.
* Ability to make technical presentations internally and to external customers.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Good interpersonal skills in order to work in cross-functional teams.
* Working knowledge of Subsea standards, CE directives and Norsok.
* Working knowledge of IWOCS control modules
* Working knowledge of Umbilical reels and deployment systems
* Working knowledge of hydraulic equipment
* Good understanding of machinery drive and power systems
* Good understanding PLC control systems.
Education:
B.Eng. (Hons) Mechanical Engineering plus at least 10 years relevant work experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered as valuable.
Remuneration:
On offer for this position is a salary of around £50-55K DOE with additional benefits
