My client require a Data Engineer / BI Developer to join them on a six months initial contract in Nottingham.

The role involves working with the SQL Server stack, and beyond, in an intellectually challenging, stimulating and collaborative environment, with software teams, data scientists, finance, marketing experts and a range of other business functions, all of whom pride themselves at being amongst the best in the business. We are a highly data-driven business, and you will play a crucial part in ensuring that robust, secure and well-engineered solutions are produced to deliver the right data to the right people at the right time.

You will have an excellent handle on most aspects of modern BI and data engineering practices, which may include: capturing data from a range of sources, both traditional (e.g. relational, flat file) and newer formats (e.g. NoSQL, APIs, message queues), data warehousing (schema design and data management practices), reporting and visualisation. You will, of course, be a SQL guru.

You will not be phased by new challenges, and in particular, you will be able to apply your knowledge and skills to devise smart solutions to novel problems. You will have solid experience of the Microsoft BI stack (particularly SSIS) and will be able to code (ideally in C#) to an intermediate level or above. Other non-essential technical skills we'd love you to have include Power BI and the world of Azure, but we're happy to train these up if needed. You will be logical, organised, assertive, and able to quickly identify brilliantly simple solutions to difficult problems.

You will be able to demonstrate a real aptitude and passion for all things data. This will mean that, in addition to your own experience in your current or previous roles, you will take a keen interest in industry trends and developments. You will be aware of the innovations in data storage technologies and data engineering practices, and will take a hands-on approach to acquiring and building your skills in these areas.

You will have excellent communication skills, and be very comfortable working with both business stakeholders and your technical colleagues in order to translate and deliver on the requirements, ideally having worked in an agile development environment.

Although not essential, knowledge or experience of the Financial Services sector would be helpful.

This is an urgent contract requirement and so if you wish to be considered then please apply immediately.
