Gallery Town is seeking a Freelance Programme Director to support the delivery of an ambitious new programme of creative visioning, arts commissioning and organisational development.

£200/day - approximately 60 days work to March 2020.

Established in 2011, Gallery Town was conceived to transform the cultural experience of Rotherham town centre by working in the built environment to create a major open-air art gallery, with advice from YSP and backing and support from local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Over the eight years since its inception, Gallery Town has grown to present over 100 works of art across 60 locations in Rotherham town centre comprising work by local artists, children and young people from schools across the Borough and Rotherham College, commissions for new works, and facsimiles of historic 'masterpieces' from national collections. In addition to maintaining and promoting the works across the town centre, Gallery Town has delivered a number of cultural projects in the town centre, creating new public events and adding value to existing festival activity. The experience of delivering this programme of work has established the value and potential of creating opportunities for art works,

You will be an experienced creative professional with knowledge of best practice in public art, experience of business planning, project-management, and fundraising. You will be accustomed to working in multi-agency partnerships, bring exceptional relationship-management skills and be able to demonstrate experience of creatively-ambitious projects and a commitment to working with communities with little previous experience of contemporary art.

Lead and co-ordinate the next phase of the Gallery Town programme, developing Gallery Town's role as a creative agency for public art in Rotherham, and completion of the outcomes specified in Gallery Town's recent successful Arts Council Project Grant.

Work with YSP, ROAR and RMBC Culture Sport and Tourism to develop a new creative vision and framework for art in the public realm.

Produce a 3-5 year Business Plan to support the development of Gallery Town, including governance.

Identify and secure resources to support the next phase of Gallery Town, including working with businesses to encourage sponsorship and other corporate partnership opportunities.

Co-ordinate project partners to ensure the delivery of the project milestones within timescales, including commissioning, construction and installation of the first open-air sculpture.

Work with Rotherham Council and other partners to embed the work of Gallery Town within local plans, including the Cultural Strategy, the Masterplan for Rotherham Town Centre and the WE Great Place programme.
