Howdens Joinery are looking for an experienced Category Buyer based in our Northampton office in Brackmills Industrial Estate. This is a Fixed Term Contract role for 9 months and would suit someone who has previous buying and purchasing experience ideally in a fast paced, dynamic organisation.

As a Category Buyer, you'll have complete end to end accountability for the buying cycle for your sinks and taps range including creating your commercial plan, sourcing products and trading including launching and bringing your products to market. Therefore, you'll need to have commercial acumen, be an exceptional communicator with excellent negotiation skills and be able to prioritise effectively whilst working with your suppliers and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Senior Category Buyer, and responsible for managing your own portfolio you will be part of a busy team who operate in a fast paced and commercial environment. It's therefore, essential that you have a flexible and adaptable approach to your work and work well within a team.

Key Experience and Accountabilities

Category commercial proposition and execution to deliver to overall business commercial plan including stakeholder engagement and initial business case including stock requirement, tests, commercial annual cycle
Proven buying and purchasing track record and be skilled in driving for lowest cost without compromising quality, availability or design.
People Management experience would be advantageous
Range architecture and Product Life Cycle Management - including all product data
Category sourcing strategy and execution - supplier service level agreements and supplier management to ensure lowest total cost of goods.
Price bench marketing, depot cost pricing, cost of goods (including setting trading price) sold and Category margin proposition
Collaboration across all business functions to agree and implement the go to market strategy
Launch of new products via inspirational marketing communications, product training, STEP database and field engagement and communications
Product and brand leadership as appropriate by category
Stock clearances and promotions
Supplier relationship management including ownership of Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers
