Test Engineer - Data - Cardiff - 40k

Your new company
My client are seeking a Quality Test Engineer with a background of testing large volumes of data to work alongside their development teams in Cardiff.

Your new role
As a Quality Test Engineer, you will plan test approaches, design, write and execute tests and analyse the results to assure data and software changes meet the agreed requirements.

You will also be required to:
  • Create and manage test harnesses utilising automation tools to monitor and uphold the quality of our data
  • Work with large volumes of data from a wide variety of sources, with a mission to ensure that data is accurate and up to date, how the data interacts with other sources is sound and is available to be fed into our products
  • Ensure that our daily production of data is released successfully and maintaining a positive customer experience
  • Ensure that our data remains accurate and of a high quality
  • Aid in root cause analysis of data related queries from Support teams
  • Work closely with Data Insight teams to analyse patterns and behaviours in the data and trends over a longer term timeframe
  • We will help you learn how to use our big data platform - through a combination of training courses, self-learning and peer support
  • Working alongside product management, project management and engineering teams to plan testing for delivery of products and enhancements; to assure business requirements and quality standards are met
  • Creating automated tests for new features and maintaining existing automation packs - related to data and services
  • Analysing requirements in order to effectively carry out testing activities at a variety of levels (Functional, UAT etc.)
  • Carrying out both manual and automated regression testing
  • Applying testing techniques, patterns, tools and technologies to deliver functionality in line with business goals
  • Working effectively within an agile SDLC
  • Communicating with product owners and developers to ensure any bugs found are recorded and fixed in accordance with best practices


What you'll need to succeed
Essential:
  • Passionate collaborator with a focus on what is best for the team (both immediate and the wider group)
  • Capable and enthusiastic technologist, able to demonstrate a broad technical and functional knowledge
  • Good quality assurance (QA) experience
  • Proven ability working with very large volumes of data, querying and manipulating the data to identify patterns and check quality on a significant data platform (for example MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, Hadoop or similar)
  • Strong understanding of QA methodologies
  • Good knowledge of the software development process
  • Proven track record in quality assurance and project delivery
  • Experience in testing at a Functional or User Acceptance level
  • Ability to identify and implement continuous improvement practices
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Clear focus on the customer, both internal and external


Desirable:
  • Proven ability to develop and execute automated tests using tools such as Cucumber or Selenium (or able to demonstrate suitable transferrable skills)
  • Scripting experience using one or many languages (for example python, bash, ruby, php or similar)
  • Experience working within an agile environment
  • Experience using test management tools such as JIRA
  • A working knowledge of source code management tools like GIT and SVN


What you'll get in return
For this role I am able to offer a salary of up to 40k
