Our Vacancy

The purpose of this role is to provide effective engineering management of the Development Engineering team for all aspects of the department. Including product design/development, researching latest technologies, implementation to JFD products, adherence to rules, regulations, standards and processes and development of team through competence measurement and training.

Principal accountabilities:
  • Management and supervision of the team
  • Maintaining a suitable, safe working environment for all department activities
  • Keeping up to date with latest technology releases
  • Ensure team provides cutting edge design solution in line with market expectations
  • Maintenance and development of departmental processes and procedures
  • Adherence to global engineering end to end process and sub processes
  • Planning and estimating for future product research programs and design developments
  • Recruitment of sufficient permanent and temporary staff to meet the current and future demand on the department
  • Management of budgets to ensure the cost of research and/or development tasks are always within the allocated budget and all deliverables are completed as per the assigned schedule
  • Ensure all design activity is in accordance with relevant internal and external standards including upload and approval in Advitium
  • Reporting on department performance through set KPIs
  • Proactively develop research, development and engineering initiatives, with a view to continual improvement and evolution of JFD processes in conjunction with improvement authorities
  • Close liaison with engineering management team to instill best practice and set & maintain adherence to the engineering strategy
  • Provide line manager with weekly performance dashboard
  • Report and advise on relevant statutory and industry changes
  • Provide practical and hands on advice and support to all stakeholders
  • Coach/mentor team members where required
  • Develop team through the use of competence framework and training
Who we are looking for
  • Minimum of 10 years in an engineering field including management experience
  • Experience in a defence or subsea engineering environment
  • Experience with PLM systems for generating and storage of engineering packages
  • Previous dive system or submarine escape experience would be advantageous
  • A relevant Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Any relevant diving qualifications would be advantageous
  • Capable of providing technical supervision and decision making on complex and varied research, development and engineering issues
  • Have a sound knowledge of engineering principles and strong engineering skills
  • Have a sound knowledge of manufacturing methods in order to support decisions on design requirements
  • Able to provide leadership to a multi-discipline team of engineers including Mechanical, Electrical and Draughting.
  • Effectively identify and communicate critical tasks and key risks
  • Able to maintain and control departmental and deliverable documentation and procedures
  • Ability to react to and drive change in a positive manner to seek continuous improvements
  • Ability to work effectively within a team structure, accept and understand management instruction, manage own timescales and specified timescales effectively
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks and personnel issues
  • Flexible for travel to local or overseas sites if required
