Wine Advisor, Basingstoke, part-time

Alongside our state-of-the-art bonded warehouse facilities and tasting rooms, our Basingstoke site is also home to the Warehouse Shop. Housed in the former bottling hall (where the last bottles were filled, corked and labelled in 1991), the Shop now offers an unparalleled range of wines and spirits, encompassing both the Old and the New World.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the team as a Part-time Wine Advisor to provide a warm, engaging and knowledgeable service, and to delight our customers each time they visit the shop.

The Warehouse shop is open 4 days a week (closed Sunday through Tuesday) with opening hours of 10am to 6pm on week days and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. The successful candidate will be expected to work 3 shifts - Thursday to Saturday; however, a degree of flexibility is required due to the varying demands of the business and at peak times.

The role involves:
  • Advising on, and selling the full range of BB&R products and services to customers via the shop, phone and e-mail.
  • All general shop house-keeping, to keep the retail space up to BBR standards.
  • General transaction/ till duties including cash handling and credit cards, till reconciliation and banking duties.
  • Organising and running tastings for customer, to include; Wedding tastings, external tastings, region specific tastings.

Skills, knowledge and personal attributes:
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering and maintaining an outstanding level of customer service
  • Personable, with the ability to quickly build relationships and establish trust
  • Confident in sharing knowledge & personal experience with customers
  • Flexible and pro-active, can-do attitude
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good numerical ability, and commercially aware
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic wine & spirits knowledge and passion for the products (ideally WSET Level 2)
  • Experience of working in a physically demanding environment (moving approx. 24,000 cases per year).
