Commodity ManagerPermanent - £50-55k salary plus bensSouthampton, Hampshire
Our client is a leading designer and manufacturer of fiber lasers for use in laser cutting, welding and marking applications in a wide range of industries. They are seeking a Commodity Manager to join a team of an Analyst, 3 Buyers and a Materials Manager who all reporting into the Head of Procurement. You will need to have a strong contractual and commercial background.
The ideal candidate for the role must be a skilled contract negotiator and worked at a strategic level, not just implementing what has been decided, they must have been the decision maker and implemented. The ideal candidate must be strong but not aggressive in nature and have a balanced approach. The skills below are required and a Manufacturing background would be ideal but, is not a must have.
Job Purpose:•Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will be accountable for the procurement of goods and/or services in the specific commodities assigned (optics, electronics (PCBA) and mechanics but this may change over time)•This is a strategic role in a newly created structure•You will be responsible for managing an annual spend of £30-40m •You will be expected to help mentor and develop other members of the team •Based in Southampton your responsibility covers suppliers supporting manufacturing locations in Southampton and Rugby and there will be collaboration with the parent company in Germany•Travel between UK sites and internationally will be required on occasion •This is a key role in a rapidly growing technology company and requires an individual who can develop stakeholder relationships very quickly and negotiate at the highest level
Key Areas of Responsibility:•Establish effective commodity strategies that align to corporate and operational objectives •Develop and negotiate supply agreements with key suppliers and then monitor adherence •Manage RFQ's / tenders and develop objective supplier selection methods•Negotiate costs and identify and continuously deliver cost reduction programmes•Support new product development and introduction•Effectively manage key supplier relationships (SRM)•Improve supplier performance (KPI's)•Identify and manage supply chain risk•Provide commercial leadership and staff training where appropriate •Support the Head of Procurement in developing effective processes and tools to support the ambitions and vision of the business as it grows during the coming years
Required Experience:•Procurement professional with 5-10 years commercial experience in a strategic commodity / category management setting •Experience of optics, electronics and/or mechanics would be preferred but is not essential•Experience of working in the technology sector and a complex manufacturing environment across multiple locations •Excellent commercial / financial acumen with proven success of managing challenging supplier contract negotiations to tight timescales•Demonstrable and consistent delivery of strategic cost reduction programmes •Creation and execution of effective commodity strategies •IT literate, strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Qualifications:•Degree qualified in either a technical or business discipline •CIPS preferred but not essential
Personal Profile:•Able to analyse data and provide clear interpretation of key opportunities and risks •Able to operate at all levels within an organisation with an ability to quickly establish good relationships and credibility with suppliers and internal stakeholders alike •Self-confidence combined with strong negotiation, influencing, leadership and coaching skills•Disciplined in fact-based debate and decision making•A creative and innovative approach to problem solving •Remains calm and composed under pressure and shows respect when dealing with others•Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, with the ability to discuss complex, commercial issues with staff at all levels•Has the drive and initiative to manage their own workload, with the ability to prioritise and deliver against deadlines with minimal supervision•Able to work with internal cross-functional stakeholders to deliver best outcomes•Able to cooperate and adapt and strives for excellence in all areas
