Payroll Team Leader

Location: Belfast

Salary:£24,000-£26,000

Job Purpose

Lead the Payroll Team in providing a professional and responsive Payroll service to customers clients by adhering to defined service level agreements and statutory requirements, ensuring accurate payment every month.

This person will play a pivotal role helping to grow the company, strengthen it and ensure its sustainability.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To manage the Payroll Team in ensuring that all clients staff are paid accurately and that payslips, statutory returns and reports are produced and validated in a timely manner
  • Ensure appropriate workload allocation, sharing of knowledge, review performance and instil a culture of continuous improvement and outstanding customer service
  • To undertake day-to-day payroll activity to ensure practical knowledge and smooth running of the service, enabling provision of cover on all payrolls
  • Ensure that business goals are clearly communicated to Payroll Administrators and linked to individual and team objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and pension scheme requirements, eg, P11Ds, auto-enrolment
  • Validation and reconciliation of post payroll output and the loading of costing files to General Ledger
  • Preparation and reconciliation of month end payments to external agencies, such as HMRC, pensions
  • Manage all year end statutory returns required by, for example, HMRC
  • Keep up to date with relevant regulations/legislation, taking action and implementing changes where necessary. Ensure Payroll team are fully informed of any such changes
  • Use appropriate communication channels to update clients on any pension's news/changes in a timely manner.
  • Utilise relevant reporting tools to maximize efficiency of processes, accuracy of data and to develop relevant Payroll KPIs.
  • Seek feedback from customers and respond to any compliments, concerns or complaints

People
  • Exhibit strong leadership skills including the ability to resolve both internal and external queries.
  • Increase departmental effectiveness, engagement and accountability by communicating values, strategies and objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate direct report employees including undertaking appraisals, coaching and mentoring activities to develop and upskill direct reports.
  • Work closely with Payroll Operations Manager to ensure effective functioning through all areas of the business.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:
  • Two-years Payroll experience
  • Ability to lead and manage a team in fast-paced business environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with key business stakeholders including colleagues, directors, investors and auditors
  • Support and Mentor staff development using ACT.
  • Adaptable to change and open to new ideas with a growth mindset
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver on pre-set objectives
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel essential
