Network Engineer - Wokingham - £50,000+

Role: Network Engineer
Location: Wokingham

The successful Network Engineer is responsible for design, engineering, configuration, installation, and support of the global network. The Network Team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale and providing support to other teams within IT to ensure uptime and performance across the entire business.

The Network Engineer II role contributes towards the implementation of a broad range of enterprise infrastructure projects such as mergers & acquisition network integration, routing & switching equipment refreshes, network infrastructure improvements, and operational standardization. This role also encompasses tier 3 support for network performance or connectivity problems, network vendor relationship management, and network operations management.

The Role & Responsibilities
* Identify and develop scalable network designs, solutions, and policy recommendations.
* Ensure continued optimized operation of the global network infrastructure.
* Support internal business units and application groups by identifying and addressing their network-impacting requirements with the rest of the IT Infrastructure team.
* Support and lead implementation of the network infrastructure.
* Provide support and solve complex networking issues.
* Maintain operational monitoring systems and analyse monitoring statistics
* Analyse and mitigate risks at the network level
* Assist with budget planning and procurement of networking hardware and software
* Assess and plan for near and long-term network capacity needs.
* Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and standard operating procedures.
* Provide direction for less experienced engineers

Required Skills & Experience
* 3 years of experience with routing & switching, wireless, network security, and data centre technologies.
* Operational experience with enterprise/carrier-class routers and switches
* Experience with TCP/IP fundamentals (both IPv4 & IPv6), QoS, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS), and internet peering.
* Experience with network security fundamentals such as application firewalling, user identification & authentication, threat & intrusion prevention, web access security & filtering.
* Experience with layer 2 technologies such as Spanning-Tree, EtherChannel, MLAG, VACLs.
* Experience with enterprise Wi-Fi design and technologies.
* Experience with next generation firewalls
* Excellent troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Understanding of virtualization/hypervisor technologies and how they relate to networking and security.
* Experience with remote access technologies such as SSL/IPsec VPN or telecommuter access points.
