Job Description - Business Finance Analyst (1900613)Job Description Business Finance Analyst (Job Number: 1900613)Description Business Finance Analyst - BFS Operations x3Job Family & Band - Finance Band ALocation - EdinburghContract type - 12 month secondment or 12 month fixed term contractClosing Date - 24th JulyContact - 0131 245 5100Introduction and BackgroundThe Operations Team in Business Finance Services (BFS) are responsible for managing and controlling the full range of finance transactions and processes that result in complete and accurate accounting records in the Oracle ledger, controlled balance sheets and well managed and controlled period end close processes. We need a highly motivated and well-organised finance analyst to join the team to help deliver a range of month end finance processes and key reconciliations and controls. In this role the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering activities such as:the delivery of Asset reconciliations and month end reporting;balance sheet reconciliations and analysis; and support ledger close activities including the completion of controls, verification checks and intercompany processesThis is a great opportunity to work across a range of activities and is ideally suited for someone who has the ambition and drive to succeed in a role that supports a variety of finance operations. This is also an exciting time for an analyst to join the team as there is opportunity to get involved with interesting project work outside of key month end reporting cycles. Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the delivery of robust, effective and efficient, operational and finance processes and controlsDeliver a controlled and efficient month end close Investigate and where appropriate prepare and post journals to correct the ledger position across areas including assets and policyholder accounting records such as premiums, claims etc. Reconciliation of Ledger accounts, providing control and assurance over the balance sheet.Receipt and analysis of data received e.g. asset data to support key reconciliations Preparation of draft month end position (early results), analysing and commenting on any variance to plan and exceptions in the month.Own intercompany reconciliations, ensuring control is maintained over intercompany balances.Work effectively and collaboratively across BFS Operations and with other key stakeholders. Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and partners.Design and implement process improvements. Liaise with auditors and resolve audit queries Ensure compliance with relevant procedures and processes and maintain evidence/audit trail as requiredResponsible for specifying accounting rule changes for large corporate initiativesCompletion of month end verification work to highlight and resolve any unusual ledger movementsCompletion of ledger control checks to ensure the ledger is fit for purposeWhere appropriate, supporting team with project/change workQualifications Key Skills RequiredEssential:Educated to Higher level (or equivalent), preferably including a numerate subject such as Mathematics or AccountingThe job holder must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills.Strong knowledge of financial systems and controls Ability to demonstrate analytical skills.Strong communicator with the ability to build excellent working relationships.Good level of accounting knowledge and experienceExperience of working in a Financial Services environment, in particular working with business related accounting systems.Excellent PC skills, with proven experience in Microsoft Office packages, and policy holder and administration systems.Ability to produce quality output within demanding deadlines, whilst adapting to changing external requirements Self motivation - Ability to identify issues, analyse issues and propose solutions with-out being directly led. Strong written and verbal communications skillsTeam player, able to work effectively within and across teams.Checking and reporting - strong focus on controls and checking Desired:Experience of relevant source/business systemsExperience in change environmentEducated to diploma or degree level in an Accountancy/accountancy related discipline.Key Personal Competencies Analytic skills, able to sort volumes of data, identify relevant information.
