Visitors are a vital part of what we do. As a charity every penny we raise goes back into our continued conservation of our places and spaces. You can expect to seize all opportunities to grow our income at the visitor welcome, from promoting the benefits of our membership with gift aid and direct debit schemes to delivering a loved and unique retail experience. You'll be responsible for achieving retail and membership targets.

We're looking for one or two people who can work flexible hours across the week, in particular we're looking for someone who can cover our weekend shifts (9.45am-5.15pm) but there is also the options of some week day working too.

This role is an hourly paid, fixed term role. Wherever possible we aim to offer a consistent working pattern, but we're looking for flexibility as it may be necessary for us to alter this pattern from time to time to suit the needs of the business. We'd give you as much notice of this as possible.
What it's like to work here
Winchester City Mill has stood at the heart of the historic city of Winchester, since at least Saxon times. With a history of over 1000 years, Winchester City Mill is probably the oldest working watermill in the UK. A rare surviving example of an urban working corn mill, the City Mill was rebuilt in 1744. Having entered the care of the National Trust in the late 1920's, the City Mill was restored back to full working order in 2004.

The City Mill offers a visitor attraction like few others. With frequent baking demonstratings and producing traditional stoneground wholemeal flour using the power of the River Itchen. We're home to a wide variety of wildlife which can be spotted from our tranquil island garden. We're also the official gateway to the South Downs National Park.

You'll be part of our wonderful team here who are passionate about their role and why we're here. We're a high street shop with a real difference!
What you'll be doing
Our commercial work is essential to our continued funding. Whether it's the car park, visitor reception, retail shop, or our café , you'll be part of the operations team, responsible for ensuring that we continue to deliver excellent customer service every day.

You'll be responsible for ensuring the presentation of our visitor welcome areas is spot on, engaging our visitors, making them feel welcome and keeping all areas clean and tidy. You'll be responsible for working across all areas of the operations team, providing support to the teams as needed.
