An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a world leading global organisation, our client is a Leading Global FMCG Company with Brands such as Lipton, Ben & Jerry's, Knorr, Persil & Magnum and are currently looking for a Digital Modelling and Simulation Engineer, to be based at their research facility in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire (MK44) - just 40 minutes' drive from Milton Keynes. This is a full-time temporary role for a period of 6 months, working a 37.5 hour week, to start ASAP. This role is paying up to £32420 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.

This role is part of the global Foods & Refreshment (F&R) Packaging Capability team led by the Refreshment Packaging Director. The F&R Packaging Capability organization is charged with defining and driving best practice in technology, process, tools and techniques across Foods & Refreshment categories. The scope covers Digital Packaging, Packaging Excellence (how we do Packaging), Design Capability, Sustainability and Strategic Materials. Digital simulation is core to our Packaging design strategy.

Job Summary:
  • Support the F&R categories and provide direction to stakeholders in interpretation and decision-making using results of simulation and predictive analyses.
  • Supporting the transformation of how Packaging Engineers and Developers create data, capture data and use data to make decisions. To help define the requirements for new digital solutions and to enhance decision making in the future.
  • Work collaboratively with categories to define, develop, test and deploy new digital tools to enable data capture, data access/management, modelling and simulation.
  • Build and develop the simulation Capability: Simulating manufacturing; simulating packaging tests; physical testing and validation; using CAD software and presentations.
  • To create, develop and implement best practice in digital simulation (e.g. for briefing, managing, collating and interpreting feedback from consultants).
  • Aid the Unilever community in the interpretation and decision-making using results of FEA analysis, mathematical models or material data.
  • Facilitating a mindset and behaviour change across the Packaging community.
  • Supporting initiatives aimed at educating and upskilling members of the packaging community to enable them to progressively exploit data analysis and modelling capability.
  • Have material understanding and expertise in the key packaging materials used in the category (Including: Rigid plastics: PET PP and PE; Flexibles (e.g. pouches and flow wraps); Paper & board.

Key Skills:

A minimum qualification of a degree in a relevant subject. A degree in Computer Science, Data Modelling & Simulation or Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering discipline) is likely to be most relevant (or Design/ Engineering/ polymer science) from an accredited college or university.
  • Job Experience: Either a Masters/PHD with some evidence of modellling and simulation or 3 - 5 years in Data Modelling / Simulation role
  • Competency in one or more areas of numerical and computational simulation.
  • Experience of one or both of the following tools: Finite Element analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Experience of one or more of the following analysis programs: Abacus, Radioss, Hyperworks, 3DS platform, Ls-dyna, Star-CCM+, Moldex3D, moldflow, Ansys/Fluent, Scripting, Unix, HPC usage, Minitab.
  • Experience in 3D CAD modelling, particularly NX software.
  • Experience validating virtual testing.
  • Confidence to autonomously assess and use design, engineering and scientific judgement to define tailored approaches to projects and program.
