Contract Type: Temporary for 1 year

Interview Date: Week Commencing Monday 5 August 2019

This vacancy is restricted to applicants who are currently actively engaged in a full time course of study, leading to a qualification at degree level in town planning or a related discipline. You must also be aged between 16 and 24 as of the 5 August 2019.

A student placement provides an opportunity for a full time student to gain practical work experience in their chosen field of study. The placement will normally take place in the year immediately preceding the final year of study, although placements at an earlier stage may also be beneficial.

Applicants must be actively engaged in a full time course of study, leading to a qualification at degree level in town planning or a related discipline.

Requirements
This is a Trainee Planning Assistant (Student Placement) within the Planning Portfolio of the Economy, Planning and Employability Service.

The successful candidate will gain experience across a wide range of tasks associated with both forward planning and the processing of applications for planning permission. This will include dealing with enquiries from members of the public, maintaining planning records, inputting data and documents to electronic storage systems and assessing application submissions.

Applicants should have the ability to balance competing priorities. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Microsoft computer packages and a keen interest in the built or rural environment.
The Individual
The individual should possess good communication skills which include written, verbal and listening skills. They should be able to organise own workload and work unsupervised. The individual should be able to work to a high degree of accuracy.
