The Head of Bank Reconciliations sits in Aldermore's Financial Control team which set the benchmarks for cost control and provide the final checks and balances for all internal control systems and processes ensuring effectiveness and efficiency across the bank. It's a dynamic environment in which to gain invaluable career experience.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for a Head of Bank Reconciliations to join this progressive organisation based in Reading. You will lead and manage the bank reconciliation team on a day to day basis, reporting to the Financial Controller - Operations (and deputising in their absence). You will also be involved in embedding the Autorek system across Finance and ensure that this leads to tangible efficiencies and improvements in control and management information, including moving other types of reconciliation onto the system and improving the attestation process and MI. In addition you must be comfortable operating in an environment where 'change' is the norm with the drive and tenacity to help implement change and be willing to get involved in projects outside of your BAU role where appropriate.

Key Accountabilities include

Team Leadership and Development
  • Manage BAU for daily and monthly reconciliations whilst creating space for the team to deliver the required process improvements
  • Performance manage and develop a team of 3
  • Ensure the team is cross-trained to provide cover
  • Maintain a good team spirit where team are engaged and take responsibility for delivering the change needed

  • Compile accurate and timely bank reconciliations according to agreed frequencies and deadlines
  • Investigate and resolve any differences identified on bank reconciliations in a timely manner
  • Assist and support other team members with any tasks required to meet deadlines
  • Support month-end reporting activities as required
  • Produce an ageing analysis each month in line with the control framework
  • Produce meaningful monthly management information on the status of bank rec's
  • Move other types of reconciliation onto the AutoRek system
  • Use the Rekognise attestation software to improve the attestation process and MI

  • Comply with all current regulatory and other training required for the role
  • Achieving satisfactory outcome for Business Assurance Audits
  • Be active in the Bank Reconciliations Team and other office activities to support good team working, and creating a positive image for Finance throughout the organisation

Governance and controls
  • Controls documented, in place and evidenced as being followed
  • Clear and documented policies in place for escalation of issues

Drive process improvement
  • Proactively identify and prioritise areas for improvement with the assistance of wider FC team and process excellence
  • Prepare an action plan with specific actions and realistic deadlines
  • Highlight and escalate issues as necessary

SME Knowledge
  • Expectation that you are the key SME on processes and practices of the Bank Reconciliations team and able to lead/ fully participate in discussions on this topic

Experience required
  • Good working knowledge of standard accounting systems
  • Excellent reconciliations experience, ideally bank reconciliations
  • Good Excel skills and proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications such as Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong people management experience with the ability to coach and maximise the potential of individuals within the team
  • Ability to challenge current practices and identify more efficient solutions
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills
  • Experience of embedding change and driving process improvement with a focus on improving the control framework would be beneficial
