Description
£19,433 per annum for 36 hours per week, across 42 weeks of the year pro-rata to £21,169. The role is term time plus an additional 15 days per year. You will have a Surrey base in Guildford and also work in school settings.

Surrey Speech and Language Therapy service is delighted to offer an opportunity to join our team! We have a post for a Speech and Language Therapist Assistant to join our team of therapists and assistants.

About the Service

The School-Aged Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Council's local SEND offer, working collaboratively in the Vulnerable Learners team in Surrey Children, Families and Learning directorate, with other teams like educational psychology, and specialist teachers.

We aim to deliver the right support at the right time, through assessment and intervention and equipping families and professionals with the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with SLCN. We follow the Balance model to offer universal, targeted and specialist support for children, families and the school workforce; working with children and young people with EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plan) and those at SEN (Special Education Needs) support.

About the Role

This is a great opportunity to work across a range of schools in SW Surrey. You will be based for 2 days a week in Burpham Specialist Centre working alongside the team in the centre which includes a Speech and Language Therapist, the rest of the week will be in mainstream schools. Your base will be Quadrant Court, 35 Guildford Road, Woking GU22 7QQ

Your role will be to play a pivotal part in supporting children to achieve the outcomes agreed by a Speech and Language Therapist in conjunction with the school and family through a range of activities:
  • Working individually with a child/ young person within the school
  • Modelling strategies to class teachers/ teaching assistants
  • Working with a small group
  • Creating resources for the therapy team

You will receive regular supervision and training

To be shortlisted to interview for this position your application will clearly evidence:
  • Experience of working with children and young people either within mainstream or specialist schools and Centres
  • Flexibility to adapt both your approach and communication style in order to deliver therapy intervention which is functional and client centered
