An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Manager (Known internally as Principal Scientist) to manage the Analytical Services team within the Clean Air Technology Centre. We are looking for a talented individual to run our state-of-the-art laboratories providing support to all areas of research and development within our Clean Air sector and also to Johnson Matthey production facilities and customers. This role will be responsible for managing a team of 10 chemists who utilise a range of analytical techniques to characterise raw materials, intermediate products and finished catalysts to support product and process development. They perform method development and transfer activities to support testing conducted at production facilities.Key responsibilities:Manage the Characterisation and Tech QC facilities ensuring effective and efficient resource utilisation that optimises the available analytical techniques and staff. Ensure that overall resources match the demand from the various departments across Clean air and Johnson Matthey customersManage a team of Chemists working to complete Analytical, Characterisation and Test Method projects and programs. Assess inputs from internal and external customers to establish project goals and determine priority and allocate resources accordingly.Ensure a robust laboratory Quality Management system is in place to comply with the ISO/TS16949 standard and is implemented and maintainedIdentify opportunities for continuous improvement and the implementation of best practice principles, to enhance existing products and processes to gain competitive advantage.Are you the ideal candidate?A Degree level qualification in a relevant Science discipline with significant and relevant experienceStrong experience of people management and resources supervisionExpert technical knowledge of catalysis and analytical techniquesProject management and coordination experienceExperienced making key decisions in relation to resourcing, products and processes with the ability to assess the potential impact and appropriate solutions.Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with an appreciation of the most effective tools for conveying technical information to diverse stakeholders, both internal and external.Proficiency in the analysis and interpretation of complex technical data.Proven ability to conduct root cause analyse, identify continuous improvement opportunities and implement change within own team.How to apply?If you have the necessary skills and experience to join our team and would like to apply, please complete an online application.
