Legal Counsel / In-house Commercial Lawyer
Full Time, Permanent, Newark
£50,000 - £70,000 plus excellent benefits


Our international Client is seeking a Legal Counsel / In-house Commercial Lawyer to join their expanding in-house Legal Department. This is an exciting opportunity which will a varied and interesting workload involving drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements. You will be part of a small, busy and friendly team engaging in a variety of different tasks looking after the company's locations across Europe.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review commercial contracts and other proposed arrangements with customers, liaising with other Departments and sites (Regional and International) as required
  • Review commercial contracts and other proposed arrangements in the supply chain and feedback to internal customers so as to achieve the strongest legal protection for the Company
  • Check documents and agreements first reviewed or prepared by Assistant Legal Counsel
  • Provide supervision and pass on legal knowledge to the Assistant Legal Counsel
  • Develop, implement and maintain systems to improve supply chain legal arrangements including supplier/distributor due diligence, revised standard purchase agreements and prepare corresponding policy, procedures and guidance materials
  • Support in any actual, threatened or potential legal proceedings brought by or against the Company
  • Develop and deliver internal training and education programmes in relation to legal matters (e.g. contract, confidentiality, etc.) and compliance (e.g. competition law, anti-bribery & corruption)
  • Support the development and roll-out of group compliance enhancement activities


THE CANDIDATE

You will have a minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience ideally gained in private practice or in the in-house legal department of a UK or European company (or any balanced combination of the two) with at least 4 years' contract / commercial law experience.

The ideal Candidate will also: -
  • Have a strong grounding in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts (ideally with exposure of IT / technology, sales and distribution)
  • Be able to assist and help the business on a wide range of projects and legal matters
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to demonstrate strong commercial and business acumen
